Coming up for auction on November 25th is C747BYF, a Diamond/Pearl M635CSi with 123.5k miles. Chassis number 0760126.

Estimate is £18k - £22k, although the timing chain is the first thing that springs to my mind.

From the pictures posted I think this could do with a little TLC. It appears as though the car has been driven scarcely in recent years.

n.b. This is the same auction in which the Acacia Green #379 also appears.

Looks pretty unloved and uncared for .

I love the (somewhat vague) " largely rust free " description.

Agree, looks presentable at a distance but its one of those that are a nightmare to put back to mint condition. The cream plastics are shot and i've never seen a car need welding so far inboard on the front turret  Definate one to see before committing.

No linishing of the weld or any attempt to make it look as if it wasn't done by a friend of a friend on a Saturday morning with a gasless mig .

I guess they are going for the " barn find " approach to selling it judging by the total absence of any prep work .

Wow, didn't spot that in the pics! I didn't think they rusted there! It'll probably still go for more than 15k just because it's an "M"...

My gut feeling is that a (relative) glut of other cars available right now in the UK, at similar money, means that selling #126 could be more difficult than it might have been otherwise.

Looks a right mess to me, so I would agree with you! Looks as if something very heavy was placed on the fan cover. In all my years, I've never seen welding to that part of the inner wing. If its gone there, I would think that its gone most everywhere else - and I wonder what the standard of welding's like underneath where it can't be seen

Fellow form member mirdif64 reported that #126 was bid up to £10k but did not sell, which is not altogether surprising considering its condition.

I despair at the approach taken to sell this car by the vendor.
Grainy phone photos ,being "valeted " at the local hand car wash  and reusing that utterly appalling photo of the piece de resistance of the car ,the engine , covered in caked grime ,rusty ancillaries , dead leaves ,suspicious taped and chaffed wiring and all with a heady air of a "I couldn't gaf " attitude.

I'd have little enthusiasm in this one if I was in the market for one .

I would say its worth £10k if someone wants a project however i started it up at the sale and the starter motor didn’t disengage, it had a missfire that did clear, the cap is off the MAF sensor, the clutch is heavy and brake pedal spongy. The rev counter steps and wasn’t smooth, however looked like trip/service conputer were working ok. Welding underneath looked okay as far as I could tell. The boot is a mess, mould growing, carpet needs replacing, boot lid toolbox and trim missing altogether. Its a rolling restoration for sure. There were old MOT’s and receipts but no stamps or handbooks that I could see.

The green M6 #379 was a lovely motor though, genuine throughout hense the £28.5k + 10% comission + VAT sale price. Only issue I found was inner offside wing had bern fiberglassed and it had a good shunt on the nose cone.

I’m not sure if it reached its reserve (quite) - however I looked it up on DVLA and it passed its MOT test in September  after a rusty fail a couple of months earlier. I wonder when it will re-emerge?

126 has re-emerged.

In Australia.

It's just gone through auction in Melbourne and made AUS 33k.

It Did?? I live in melbourne, and rarely miss any cars such as this on the market in the area. Do you have any more information such as which auction house had it?

No wonder you missed it, hidden as it was in a job-lot of workshop tools.

Well... its amazing that you managed to know about this, when no-one here in Aus said anything. i am on Facebook daily, and an active member of a group page for E24's,, and yet this is the first i have heard of it. Thanks for letting us know, and a few of us will no doubt keep an eye out for it..

I cannot take any credit, OzBmwnut. A kindly member of “Aussie Sharks - E24” (which presumably is the group you belong to) made mention of this car to me. The rest was easy.

No doubt the presence of #126 in Australia will be announced more vocally in the not too distant future. My guess is that a bunch of work to make it more drivable/presentable/saleable will happen beforehand though.

It will be interesting to hear what work you have had to do to sort this car out. When I looked at its test history over here, it didn't look good - neither did the pics posted on the auction site!
