Did someone on here buy it? I received a response saying someone was coming to get it yesterday.
I'm interested in the spare motor.

I just received a reply from the seller this morning. I asked for pics of the rust areas and he replied he would send them when I was more serious about the car. They were 2 small spots and not a deal breaker. I was serious, but not now. Have at it.

Regarding M635CSi

I find the lack of a title off-putting. Add in, no way to run the vehicle without installing a transmission and it "has been sitting for a long time" a price of $10,000.00 and I'd step around this wee beastie.

One man's opinion

Phillip

Hey Phillip, where you been hiding? I guess once they stopped your Friday morning pictures, you disappeared. For those that don't know, every Friday morning you could count on a bunch of erotic pictures from Phillip to show up

So...does this seller have 2 M635CSis for sale? The link above has much of the same verbiage with a 25K ask and pictures of a running car.

Same phone number on both, I'd say he has 2 or one is a Scam.

Hey Bert!

I've been back for a while. I've posted several times on my Project thread. Grace is about to rise from the ashes. Kapo has finished the respray, done the clear coat multi-stage wet sand and is right now putting the stock Bilsteins on, preparatory to some final work on the valance & front bumper. Grace should be back on the road by the end of Feb!

Keep the shiny side up, amigo

Phillip

Hi All,

As I would like an M6 but ideally M635csi, I contacted this seller about a week ago via text. I would be wary of this car on the basis of these responses to my questions:
So the car definitely has not title: No
Has it ever had a title and can one be requested in NJ: NJ is gonna give us hell I think. The trick is to use loopholes in different states.
So has it ever been titled in the US: I don't think so, it has a US VIN
Any chance you can provide the last 7 digits of the VIN: It's not information you need to know until you buy it. I don't even want to type it to be honest.

I have the above on my phone and suggest anyone interested in this car consider whether it is a legitimate import or not and whether the owner has rights to the car.

I would also ask you to consider whether or not there was ever a US VIN M635csi. Answer is never... the M88 never complied to emmissions requirements.

What you are looking at best case is an unknown as to whether or not it runs well, higher mileage, average condition, undocumented car without the correct gearbox.

I'd normally end my test messages with "good luck with the sale" but really don't wish this headache on anyone nor anyone to then be able to illegally rip someone else off by changing VINs.

You've all been warned.

I did correspond with this individual on the vehicle he has listed on the ad and it is very sketchy. I did manage to get the VIN from it and it pulls up a M635csi on the vin decoder but I was unable to find any records online. I emailed the imports department for the US and they said they did not have a record for the vehicle. The seller said it was imported in the mid 90s so plenty of time to have a record of it, if it was properly imported. I pressed the guy further and he wouldn't give me the name of the import company. I suspect it was smuggled in or illegally imported. It hasn't been titled in the US because there are not any records that show that.

========================================
Vehicle information
========================================
VIN: WBAEE310401051421
Type code: 5531
Model: 635 CSI (EUR)
E-F-R series: E24
Series: 6
Type: COUPE
Steering: LL
Doors: 2
Engine: S38
Displacement: 3.50
Power: 0 (0 hp)
Drive: HECK
Transmission: MECH
Paint code: 184 - DELPHIN METALLIC
Upholstery code: 1984-12-04
Prod.date: 1051421 5531 184 0180 6' E24

From the VIN decoder^

I would caution anyone that is looking to buy this vehicle to think twice or to have some sort of authority (state police or something similar) to try and secure the sale and make sure that the vehicle is not stolen or otherwise. Very, very suspect. The guy requests that you bring cash and a trailer for the car and meet him at a storage unit. He also balked at the idea of Pre-Purchase Inspection.

Best,
David

Everything about that deal stinks of scam/illegality. I'd stay FAR away.

David - can you share the contact to search euro imported cars? I have a couple that I am trying to collect more of the history/documentation.

Thanks
Jon

Is who I contacted. They should be able to find a record if it’s there.

You can also contact CBP:

I just emailed [email protected] and they gave me a list of what is needed to obtain records:
Requirements for issuing a letter of compliance on a “Grey Market”
vehicle

You will need to provide the following information:
1. Name, Address, Phone Number, Fax Number and/or Email Address.
2. Vehicle Make, Model and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
3. Need to provide a copy of the bond release letter from the Department of
Transportation (DOT). You can contact the DOT at 202-366-5291.
4. Pictures of any and all labels on the vehicle
5. Copy of the title and/or bill of sale, (Must have proof of ownership)
The information can be emailed to: [email protected].
It is the responsibility of the original owner to keep and maintain proper paperwork on
the vehicle and transfer the paperwork to the new owner if the vehicle is sold. If there is
not enough information on a vehicle, we will NOT be able to issue a letter of compliance.

Thanks for the info! All of my euros are titled in Ohio. I was really looking to find out more on who imported them an their history. Unfortunately, none of them came with much information and when I contacted the previous owner of my one 84 m635csi he was convinced it was a factory prototype. I know it is not and I didn't want to ruin his memory of the car.

Were you able to find anything from tracking down the importer on the door plate or sticker? I looked for mine, but they were either out of business or had been bought by another company.
