[SOLD] M90 from Euro 1980 635csi - Stamford, CT USA

Post by FormerlyE30_335i »

I bought a grey market Euro 1980 635csi locally years ago. After parting out the rest of the car here, I kept the engine as a planned swap into an E30 with a conversion to Motronic 1.3 from L-Jet. Fast forward to now, and the engine has been sitting on a stand in my garage basically untouched and I'd like to pass it on to someone who'll do something constructive with this relatively rare and unique powerplant.

I removed the head, intake, and other ancillary parts. The oil pan is still attached and was never taken off. I have and will include the bottom end with oil filter housing, head, intake, AFM, airbox, injectors, alternator, starter, original head bolts, original timing chain, and a box of miscellaneous small parts like some cut connectors/wiring pigtails, etc. I believe I have the original ECU as well. The cam will need to be replaced if the engine is to be run with a period mechanical L-jet distributor - one of the two notches on the end that part of the distributor gearing slots into broke off. The engine was demonstrated to run and drive to me right before I purchased the car. Converting to miles from kilometers, it had about 100-105k on it when removed. There's some surface rust on the block as would be expected for the age of the engine and having been in a car stored outside by the previous owner I purchased it from. I have a thick 1" folder of receipts from the previous two owners mostly detailing work to the car itself that will be included as well.

Please note - this is located in Stamford, CT USA 06902. I would strongly prefer local pick up but I will entertain shipping on the condition that it is up to the buyer to arrange. I would be willing to possibly strap the engine to a pallet but otherwise the extent of my involvement in shipping would be to wheel the engine to the end of my driveway and detach it from the stand to hand over to the shipper - I'm not interested in building a crate around it or bringing the parts anywhere to a freight depot. The block's on a stand in the back of my garage at driveway/ground level and I don't have a hoist, so please bear this in mind if considering a shipping proposition. It's sat there for years now and I'm not in such a rush that I can't, for the time being, more or less wait for someone to pick it up or figure out painless shipping. Thank you for understanding this part.

I'm admittedly not up to date on pricing for these, but after having someone recently fall through (but after having discussed pricing) say $1000 as a starting number. I'm open to negotiate, particularly if you have a link to one or more recent sales of similar engines to use as a guide to a different price range. PM me with your intentions and we can speak on the phone to address specific questions and anything else for interested buyers.

Price lowered to $750

Thank you Markos.

I've replied to any PMs via email - apparently there's a threshold for replying directly. In the future, please check for an email reply if you PM me, or better yet simply PM a phone number I can text to facilitate further communication. Thanks!

Many, many views - thank you to those who have checked this out and spent the time to read the original post.

I would like to get this sold, so let's reduce the price. Maybe this will help defray the cost of shipping or even cover a good portion of it depending on the method.

$900 negotiable

I wish this forum supported strikethrough tags - someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I tried the phpBB tag for it with no success.

Anyway, disregard the quoted, poor image offering above.

This should work much, much better for anyone wishing to view the pictures: https://postimg.cc/gallery/2uf4xt9hs/

Hell, if only we were 12 miles apart, right? Or 1.2!

Who's Rob Siegel and how do I let him know he needs this? I've tried registering on E9Coupe twice now, sent emails to both "registration" and the webmaster, and used the "contact us" form two or three times over the past two weeks and haven't gotten any response whatsoever from those deadbeats. Very upset I can't access probably the other biggest market for this engine aside from you guys.

I emailed Rob, and sent him the link to your posting. He's not far from you, and is interested.

Rob is a Bimmerphile and writer for Roundel, the BMWCCA monthly magazine, and the weekly Bimmerlife, the on-line BMWCCA publication. He's a member here, but apparently hasn't been logged on in a while.

Sorry for the activity, but I was made aware the Google Drive link might not have been working for everyone, and was kind of clunky anyway.

I believe this link should be much easier to use to view the pictures: https://postimg.cc/gallery/2uf4xt9hs/.

SOLD, thank you for viewing and to those who expressed interest!

The engine is going to a good home and into a beautiful E12; I'm glad it will be put to use by a very capable new owner!
