1985 635CSI - Euro Spec, Schwarz

Post by SenorShark »

I have an '85 635csi in manual. Schwarz over Schwarz interior. It is a grey market car and was imported in 1985 so it has the higher compression engine.
Interior and exterior are both in good shape and the exterior has been re-painted. The seam for the driver outer bolsters have been redone with new leather.
New tailamps and outer side markers. Also has new headlamps that are proper spec H1/H4 (outer), H1 (inner in French yellow) these are the real deal and are superb, especially when compared to the sealed beams that were on it when federalized.
Mechanicals are in excellent shape: New injectors, used but very good afm, spark plugs replaced, new manifold gasket and 90 degree boot along with air filter. Oil and coolant have been flushed recently and it has a new temp sensor.

Hydroboost system PS been completely reworked(new hoses (high & low pressure, power steering pump, accumulator, sensors. Brake fluid done.
Suspension has been replaced w/new bilstein struts(F/R), strut mounts (F/R), sway bar end links.

List of things done:
Front bumper chrome
Front bumper parts
Left Bumper bracket
Right bumper bracket
Driver bolsters
Tail lamps, sidemarkers
Headlamp setup
Injectors
AFM, boot, air filter
Temp Sensor
Power steering pump
Brake Fluid pressure sensor x2 (high&low)
High & low pressure hoses
Accumulator
Bilstein HD shocks, front sway bar drop links, strut tower mounts, etc.
Fuel Filter, Hose, High Pressure Fuel pump
FPR

Manual trans fluid and rear differential fluid has been changed along with engine oil and filter. Brake service has been performed along with a valve adjustment. Coolant flush approximately 6 months ago and filled with BMW Blue Coolant w/DI water.
Tires are in good shape (2 years old, only about 500 miles of use) and it has a brand new set of Borbet rims

Looking for $16000 on it. It's rare car in a good color combo w/sport seats, euro lights, and a manual trans

Clean title in my name

The M5 knockoffs are gone and have been replaced.

VIN?

Does it have a LSD?

How many miles are on it?

Have you ran a car fax at all to verify miles?

What do you mean by "Front bumper chrome" looks like the bumpers are painted.

Is that a custom cluster with the red letters?

Which wheels are you selling it with? the Borbets? or the e39 M5 replicas

VIN: WBAEC71059402660
Miles: 186,859
Has LSD
I have some CarFax data with registration records, but there's not much else as it is a European specification car
I'll get some updated photos soon but you can see the chrome in the headlamp photos and I have attached a photo of the full front piece.
The cluster isn't 'custom' but has been painted with the red letters.
It will be sold with the Borbets. The replicas were 16" and one rim was bent so I got rid of them. The paint was also bad as you can see in the photos.

VIN/option report is also attached

No offense, but this seems like a very premium price for a euro car missing euro parts (rear headrests, m tech 1 wheel) and other noticeable cosmetic issues. It seems the premium prices go for clean unmolested cars, but the lack of records, blacked out trim, gauge cluster and speaker system with non-period correct wheels is not helping you find a buyer at the asking price.

I'm not trying to beat you up or say you have a bad car, but help explain why maybe you haven't had any bites thus far. Looks like a cool car. I'd add a rear spoiler and some different wheels and get going with a sinister looking vehicle. Probably black out to front grilles for the true euro shadowline.

Any pictures showing dash, original period correct radio or other parts to help justify your asking price?

+1 Senor-Shark needs to do more research. The cars commanding these prices are extremely pristine very low mileage cars. Maybe throwing it on Ebay will produce more action.

I will admit that is has a few cosmetic issues here and there and it is high mileage, but I large part I think the rarity of the car and what has been done to it justifies the pricing. Nicer condition cars go for at least a few grand more than this, if not more.
For starters:
The mechanicals has all be gone through in addition to a new suspension. Chrome has been re-done on the front and it has new chrome for the windshields. Headlamps have been corrected with a very high quality setup from Daniel Stern. Driver seat has had the outer bolsters rebuilt and covered with fresh leather. Very professional job and there aren't rips elsewhere. I think the material alone was $200-250. The wheels are not correct, but that can be easily corrected. It comes with a period correct radio that just needs to be put in. A/C is getting re-worked this upcoming week.

Further, it is missing the rear headrests, but that is the stock wheel. It also has a stock spare and a full tool kit.

In addition, it has a custom aftermarket exhaust and Hartge headers. These along with the work that has been done to correct the chrome, leather, and lens, lamps, etc. are all expensive options.
Again, the parts are there to correct some of the cosmetic issues that people have mentioned. The google drive has been updated with new photos as well.

More to come after it gets out of the shop.

Best,

David

These are your comparables to support what Bert and I are saying:

The aftermarket stereo in the doors will be a detractor for those looking for a premium investment type car. Just trying to help. I think you will find your buyer local to you or via BMW club members but the price has to be right.

Okay. Thanks for the input. I am trying to source new door cards, but I’m really trying to avoid spending more money on the car. I’ll see what some local meets and online auctions do for me. Hopefully the A/C is done this week...that would be a deal breaker for most people, especially in Texas.

Thanks
