1989 635CSi for sale - UK

Post by Ash_635 »

Hi Shark fans!

I have been browsing these forums for many years, but have only just registered as I need some some advice/feedback from some like-minded E24 enthusiasts.

Having owned my E24 for over five years, I am looking to put it up for sale within the next few weeks. However, the prices they seem to fetch nowadays is really throwing me off. Whereas the E31, E46 M3, E30s etc are quite consistent in their market values, I have noticed that the E24s fluctuate massively (anything from £4000 to £10,000).

I know that members on bigcoupe are quite active with finding any E24 for sale on the net, so I thought it would be best to get some advice here before I decide to put it up.

Vehicle specifics are:

- One of the last E24s, registered in August 1989.
- 122,000 miles
- Diamond Black with Grey leather interior
- Highline (full leather interior and head lining)
- Shadowline exterior trim
- 6 previous owners
- Part service history
- 2 keys
- MOT June 2019
- Original first aid box (still sealed)
- Full toolkit (inc. blue BMW cloth)

Has all the usual refinements (sunroof, rear blind, electric heated seats, etc). As you will note from the MOT history, it is mechanically spot on with no issues and used very sparingly.

It comes with 18" BBS RS replicas, Spax lowering springs and Bilstein shocks. The original suspension, springs and wheels would be included in the sale.

The most important bit - it has had a manual gearbox conversion. This was done by the previous owner around 7 years ago, using all the necessary parts from a 535i. The vehicle drives absolutely perfect, and if you did not know that these cars were auto, you would not be able to tell that this is a manual conversion - a testament to how well the work was carried out.

I know that the manual conversion would probably make the vehicle lose value as it's no longer original, but any true BMW driver will always prefer a manual coupe as they are so much more engaging and fun to drive. I'm hoping that this factor will get the car some attention, and it is certainly what attracted me to the car. I have driven numerous auto 635s and they're just not as fun.

What would be a fair price to demand?

I have attached some photos, and would really appreciate some advice/guidance.

As you can see, bodywork is excellent. The two front wings were replaced and new ones professionally fabricated with stainless steel wings by a local and renowned bodyshop. There is a small spot of bubbling on the sunroof (around 1p size coin), and some around the rear spoiler. Apart from that, the vehicle is very tidy and one of the better examples out there.

Thanks in advance.

I have tried adding more photos, but it is only allowing me to upload the above four, for some reason.

I'm afraid I really have no idea what the car might be worth, but just wanted to say how good it looks in lowered form. For originality purposes my 635 is on totally standard suspension and by comparison it looks like it's wearing stilts

looks a very nice well kept car, doesn't look like shadowline trim to me though? I just sold my E24 for £14.5k and if this is as good as it looks and being a manual I would say anywhere between 10 and 15k

I’m going by what the VIN number states. A check of the VIN through BMW VIN Decoder, as well as my local BMW main dealer, says “Shadowline kit” which I am assuming is the Shadowline exterior trim? Please correct me if I am wrong.
