Euro M635csi Diamond Schwarz M88/3

Post by tdlondon » Sun Sep 30, 2018 6:14 am

For sale my 90% complete restoration project 1985 BMW M635csi Euro Spec. Phenomenal M88/3 engine from the iconic M1 producing 286hp and 251 lb.ft. Car is really in great condition. Drives amazing, starts hot and cold in 1-2 seconds. Transmission shifts smoothly and with no noises, grinding or popping up. Engine compression test between 160 and 150 psi. 112k Miles. Illinois title but car is in California. Clear title, clear carfax. California car rust free. Bought the car just under one year ago with a bit of things to do, especially body and interior. Intention was to keep it but life got in the way. The car had been stored for 10 years as previous owner passed away. In these 11 months and over $10,000 fixer upper later I have completed the following: - Full body respray, glasses and seals out. - New 4 struts Bilstein B6 and front struts bearing mounts. - New front upper and lower control arms, tie rods, central tie rod, sway bar bushings and sway bar links. - New oil pan gasket. - New rear suspension dog bones. - New radiator fan clutch. - Rebuilt fuel injectors, new fuel lines and filters. Cleaned throttle bodies. - New brake pads and fluid. - Rebuilt AC compressor and recharged. Blows cold. - New Hankook Ventus tires. - Transmission fluid. What is missing completion: - Interior ext. temperature display inaccurate - Electric radio antenna doesn’t work - Sunroof tilts up but doesn’t slide back - Windshield and headlight washers don’t work What is in the works: - Bought a new dashboard with no cracks, working on replacing right now. Everything else works. Wipers, electric seats and mirrors, windows, AC, Heater. Will arrange shipping if needed.

- Price?
- Was timing chain and guides replaced (m88/3) has single row chain?
- Compression numbers seem a little low for a 112k mile motor.

I'm sure this doesn't need to be said twice, but selling this car inside CA is going to be very difficult being that it's registered out of state- I know this from experience since I am doing the same thing for my Euro 635. Either plan on registering out of state or live in one of the three counties that don't do smog. If there have been any parking tickets on the car, they may have tracked how long the car has been in the state and will reflect that in registration fees.

Either way, looks like a really nice shark- GLWS

HA!
Damn good question Ed! I’m still on the hunt for the oem fabric. I’ve talked with the original supplier & they claim that they can no longer reproduce the embossing pattern.

Hi guys

Sorry somehow my configuration is not sending me alerts of when I get posts on this thread.

About guides and timing chains I can’t tell for sure. I haven’t done that myself. I know there was a valve gap adjustment but not sure about timing chain. Is this a complicated task?

I’m more of a Porsche guy. This was my second BMW project.
I dropped the car off at an European mechanic specialist around here. He will do a PPI report tomorrow or Wednesday. Will have a compression and leakdown test done.

I’m asking 33. It’s a bit above my break even on this project.
Headliner is in very good shape. Not stained, ripped or saggy.

In the meantime I have done some more on the car, replaced the cracked dashboard, completed the tool kit set in the trunk, and now this week I am taking it to a big detailing, then I'll take some more nice pictures of it.

Yes you are right. It won’t pass smog here. I moved to California 6 months ago when I was already working on restoring the car.
Then I didn’t have a way to leave it back in IL so I brought it down. Getting here it’s been in storage. I haven’t driven more than from and to those mechanics 2-3 times. Live in a relatively small town so don’t expect to be flagged.
