- Price?
- Was timing chain and guides replaced (m88/3) has single row chain?
- Compression numbers seem a little low for a 112k mile motor.

I'm sure this doesn't need to be said twice, but selling this car inside CA is going to be very difficult being that it's registered out of state- I know this from experience since I am doing the same thing for my Euro 635. Either plan on registering out of state or live in one of the three counties that don't do smog. If there have been any parking tickets on the car, they may have tracked how long the car has been in the state and will reflect that in registration fees.

Either way, looks like a really nice shark- GLWS

HA!
Damn good question Ed! I’m still on the hunt for the oem fabric. I’ve talked with the original supplier & they claim that they can no longer reproduce the embossing pattern.

Thanks!
Yes you are right. It won’t pass smog here. I moved to California 6 months ago when I was already working on restoring the car.
Then I didn’t have a way to leave it back in IL so I brought it down. Getting here it’s been in storage. I haven’t driven more than from and to those mechanics 2-3 times. Live in a relatively small town so don’t expect to be flagged.

Folks, car is back on the market. Due to several inquiries about engine condition and the hesitation to the unknown, I had quite some work done for ~$9000, as follows:

- Did top end of the engine with valve adjustment and shims, all seals and gaskets, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, fuel injector rebuild, throttle body seals and gaskets etc.
- Replaced rod bearings and bolts, oil pan gasket.
- Replaced oil pump and oil pump sprocket.
- Inspected condition and adjusted timing chain tension. Single row timing chain visually new, must have been done by PO.
- Replaced all accessories belt, fan shroud etc.
- New bushingless alternator
- Rebuilt power steering pump and replaced all power steering hoses
- New Billy Boat exhaust system
- New brake hydro-booster and accumulator
- Replaced all coolant hoses, fuel lines and soft brake lines
- New transmission mounts, rear sway bar links.
- Replaced oil, brake, transmission and differential fluids
- New thermostat and temp sensor.
- Repaired oil pressure sensor and cold start fuel injector
- Fixed several electrical gremlins, including new fuse box cover, all new fuses etc.

Now compression test reads ~172-176psi and leakdown test between 6-8%.

All services done by Bimmerheads shop in Santa Clarita.

Also, the pristine dashboard is in, so all cracks free.
Today, to my knowledge, the only things that don't work in the car are: rear window defroster, headlights wipers, rear fog lights, windshield washer (must be either hoses or nozzle. Pump works with lever) and radio. Radio/K7 is BMW original. Turns on but no sound. Speakers work but no signal comes from the radio line.
Trunk lock turns with the key but doesn't lock.

I have the spare tire and was able to source 95% of the toolkit with original Heyco tools.

Found quite a bit of service records.

It's a solid car now. Turned out to be a much more extensive project than I anticipated...Unfortunately I need to cash out.

I'll post new pictures of the undercarriage with the new exhaust next weekend.

It might be helpful to post a healthy amount of photos of the car... most people might start to consider the vehicle if they can be enticed by the sights...
