This car has changed hands a few times now. I’m still amazed at the prices these cars command.

That's because:
a/ they're uber cool
b/ there's bugger all of them
c/ they're the preeminent Group A car
d/ they have a wide appeal

Rather oddly I ended up with an Alpina Group A ECU for a car like this; I'd bought it of t'internet as it had a stock BMW case for my 1982 car but on opening it up and checking the interior it had an Alpina part number on it; I checked the part number with Buchloe as I didn't recognise it and they confirmed it as a Group A Alpina ECU for an E24.
2001 Alpina B10 V8 Touring (1 of 12 rhd)
1997 Alpina B12 5.7 L (1 of 2 rhd)
1995 Alpina B10 4.6 Touring (1 of 1 rhd)
1985 BMW M635CSi (1 of 524 rhd)
1982 BMW 635CSiA (1 of 100's left from the 1000's made and still valiantly fighting against a rusty grave)

I bet that's worth a few quid to the right person

I saw this "Group 2" car on Pistonheads. Its not the genuine item IMO, but its half the price of the Group "A" car!

if you go to racecarsdirect.com and search for BMW there is always a 635 Group A, or two, for sale. They do command top dollar.

Some like Jim Richards Group A JPS car have been converted back to Group C to be more competitive. They run an extra 100hp in Group C. Over here (Australia) historic racing sees Group A and Group C compete. The 635 is usually in the top 3 to 5 so very competitive but runs the M88 at around 420hp. And needs to against 5 litre V8's, 500hp sierras and the Nissan GTR 4wd.
