1985 Euro 635 CSi for Sale
UPDATED on 11/3/19
Looking to sell my Euro spec E24 and would like to sell to an enthusiast who won't part it out and knows what they are getting. It is a gray market import and I have all paperwork including its federalization conversion. I'm selling because I moved and downsized and no longer have a place to keep or work on the car.
1985 Cosmosblau manual transmission with 140,xxx miles with tan leather interior. The exterior is in great shape and underwent a complete restoration prior to my purchase. I have all paperwork from that resto.
Car is located in VA.
Purchased the car in 2009 and have done extensive work to the car.
Upon initial purchase I:
- Replaced all suspension components with almost all Meyle HD. I used some cheaper aftermarket parts that failed pretty quickly (lesson learned) and those have been replaced with either Meyle HD or Lemforder.
- Kept stock springs and put in new stock Sachs shocks and struts. Has original 14" wheels.
- Rebuilt brake calipers and put on stainless steel brake lines. Replaced pads and rotors (Zimmerman cross drilled).
- MWrench upgrade
- Made numerous other small repairs such as brake booster o-ring, heater core valve replacement, electrical fixes, etc... but no other major upgrades
In the last 1000 miles I have completed:
- Engine refresh/rebuild: Removed and resurfaced head and replaced all parts that were removed and replaced. All new coolant hoses, gaskets, fuel injectors, fuel lines, water pump, spark plugs. Did not replace coil, distributor or wires as they were working fine.
- Rebuilt shifter linkage with all new parts
- Put on new firewall insulation to replace the old cracking stuff
- Replaced Pittman arms, front sway bar links, and sway bar bushings (Lemforder and BMW).
- New tires and front end alignment
- Brake Master cylinder replacement (Big brake upgrade)
- New clutch master and slave cylinders with braided stainless steel line
- Put in aftermarket stereo (Preserved original wiring so original stereo can be put back in if desired). Original stereo was working when pulled but cannot guarantee it currently works.
- New battery (put in this week)
The GOOD:
Mechanically sound as detailed above. All major work has been done.
Exterior in great condition
Seats and carpet in good condition (driver's seat had leather replaced).
The BAD:
- Dash badly cracked. I dremelled the cracks and filled in order to stabilize. I was going to do a self restore as detailed on several forums but lost interest/time. I would buy a cover or consider a restore/find one on ebay if going to keep this car.
- Headliner functional but doesn't look great.
- Missing passenger side dome light
- Rear speaker pods functional but showing age
- Steering wheel could use a rewrap.
- OBD light bar out (again). Replaced it a few years ago. If I were to do it again, would get a rebuilt LED.
- Just noticed Odometer is intermittently working. I put so few miles on the car that it can't be off by much.
- The fuel flow gauge (under the tachometer) either reads 0 at idle or max when you step on the gas. Obviously is not accurate
- Cruise control and ABS disabled/not working.
- Small bit of rust in rear driver side wheel well and rear passenger driver side floor pan.
- Exhaust - It's not a problem per se, but I would upgrade if keeping this car. It has the original 1985 BMW Catalyst and an old Ansa exhaust. I think a replacement with a modern free flowing system would help performance.
As detailed, almost all problems are common interior items you will find on this car.
I have a smattering of spare parts to include some front console and A/C parts as I was planning a R134 conversion but never got around to it.
Asking price is $12,500

Re: 1985 Euro 635 CSi for Sale
If someone is interested, I'm willing to discuss all offers. I really just want this to go to someone who won't part it out and appreciates the car.
140K miles
No frame/structural rust. Two small paint bubbles where rear window meets metal less than size of a dime without visible rust, but suspect it is hiding.
I'll get some interior pics up, but dash is completely out so will really just be showing seats/carpet.

Thanks for the interest, but car is off the market at least for the next 6 months or so. Got it put back together and runs beautifully. Think I may just do the interior upgrade myself.

I can relate :)
I have a twin to your car... a '85 635CSI Euro in Cosmos Blue. I probably need to sell it...but every time I take it for a drive (which is often) I talk myself out of it.

Re: 1985 Euro 635 CSi for Sale
Exactly! Put on the new brake master cylinder (big brake upgrade), 4 new tires and alignment and decided I can no longer sell. We downsized, and I have somewhere to put it for now, but not sure in 6 mos or so, so I'll re-evaluate. Euro cars without rust and in good shape are pretty rare so I anticipate some steady price increase over the next several years as more come off the road.

That car is a sweetheart! You should be able to sell it quickly, even though its not the best time with Turkeyday coming up and Christmas.
Give BaT a shot if you are willing, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Re: 1985 Euro 635 CSi for Sale
Thanks for the compliment. I've been considering BaT. Looking at what things have sold for on that site is how I came up with the price. It's very difficult to set the price on a rare car such as this, and maybe putting it up on an auction type format is the best way to figure out what it is really worth.

Re: 1985 Euro 635 CSi for Sale
^^ Exactly. I estimate $17.5 to $20k on a BaT auction if all the maintenance is up to date and the car is as nice as it appears to be in the photos

Re: 1985 Euro 635 CSi for Sale
Any chance of some engine bay pics and the headliner as you stated she needs some attention....
I assume sheet metal shift console and Getrag 265 ??
Has the car been resprayed ??
Interested.

I'll get some pics of the headliner and engine bay posted.
If you are interested I could also email you a zip file of multiple pics including underneath the car.
Yes, it is a sheet metal shift console.
Don't know on the transmission. I can't remember how you can tell, but I took a bunch of pics of it, and maybe you can tell which one it is from those.
When the car underwent it's exterior restoration prior to my purchase it was repainted in 2000. I have all the documentation. It was a quality job and cost over $8K.
