Interesting project. Non runner, leaky engine, car in bits and off the road for a very long time.

1997 Alpina B12 5.7 L (1 of 2 rhd)
1995 Alpina B10 4.6 Touring (1 of 1 rhd)
1985 BMW M635CSi (1 of 524 rhd)
1982 BMW 635CSiA (1 of 100's left from the 1000's made and still valiantly fighting against a rusty grave)

#255. The vendor appears to be pretty accurate in his description. The MOT history supports his comments. Looking at the engine rebuild receipt, it would appear that the job was done for a pretty decent price (£2508) considering that the chains, tensioner and guide rails were replaced. I would be slightly worried that 2nd hand parts were used in the rebuild though :-k

Its had two owners who have given up on it, so it's a case of caveat emptor!

Looks as if some of the usual rust traps have been repaired and new front wings fitted - but there's still work to be done. As its been off the road for the past seven years or so, it could have been stored outside which could account for the state of the roof - but that could also mean that there's more serious rust to be found! I think the buyer would have to factor in a complete gearbox rebuild, so that could pose some parts availability problems - although of course, a replacement gearbox could be sourced if necessary. A new clutch would be a good idea as well.

One can see why the vendor is getting rid of the car - needs potentially loads of work -plus a respray- which I think is unlikely to produce a particularly valuable example due to the high mileage. Not a viable proposition unless the buyer did most of the work himself. I'd value it at no more than £6-7K as-is and budget to spend another £2-4k for parts and paint, crossing my fingers that there's no more rust than disclosed, the engine rebuild was done properly and it still runs OK. I'm no expert in labour costs for this sort of work, as I do my own, but you have to be looking at another £8k (most likely much more) to get it painted and welded (the roof repair is a bas***d of a job (ask me how I know  ).

The other option would have been a re-shell until a few years ago, but now the supply of good cars is much reduced so that would probably not be a financially viable proposition these days :(

Most certainly a car to be inspected before bidding!

I can see where he gets his pricing from - didn't the front and reared red car from last year (or the year before?) reach 5 figures with an engine that hadn't been turned in 10 years?

Was that the one in Dagenham?

I'm surprised it didn't go - much better than that one on eBay with the staved in rear and 200k.

Price was reduced to £11,995 last week and was withdrawn from eBay yesterday so I guess it’s been sold. How long before the new owner posts on this forum, or it appears with a dealer asking £30k+ :-k
