F/S 1985 635CSi

Post by clipper47 »

Attached is a link to the kijiji site where I have an ad posted to sell my 1985 635CSi. I really hate to let it go but during the past two years my health has prevented me from using it more than a few hundred kilometres a year. I have had almost 900 viewers and almost no interest in the car from buyers. I have only had one offer of $7500 Canadian which is $5600US. Considering the overall condition of the car I really consider that too low. Am I mistaken or is this offer reasonable?
$10000 Canadian currently is about $7450 US.

Dave,

IMHO $10K is a very fair and reasonable price. Great color combo. Sport seats and a 5 speed are a plus. Solid condition, ready to drive. The downside maybe the milage.

I see ones in excellent condition like yours doing well on Bring a Trailer. I have no experience selling on BaT or what the fees/hassle/deadbeat buyers are like but doing a quick search I see many bid up to and over what you are asking. It seems to be the right audience vs. Kijiji/Craigslist.

Thanks guys, I might try BaT since that's where I got the impression my car was worth what I am asking at least. I really need to do a good photo shoot and possibly videos to show what a beautiful car this is so I might have to enlist someone with a good camera and skill in photographing cars. I think one thing that affects interest is that I live so far from any large Canadian city where there are buyers interested in vintage BMW's.

Dave,

BaT can set sellers up with a photographer in their area; contact them and see if there's one near you. I agree BaT would be a better place to sell your car. Pics of the underside would be mandatory, especially since you're in Canada but if the car's truly rust-free the true buyers will take interest. Given all the upgrades on your car I think it would do well.

I would agree with launching on BAT. For one, there are a lot of Canadian buyers there. The car is nice and is worth the 7.5k usd in a second. In fact I would buy it to flip if you were closer and I had the time. I don't think the mileage hits these cars as say they may with a Porsche if maintained. Rust free, they have proven to be excellent driving cars well over that Km mileage. This is a steal. Good Luck.

Thanks once agin for the advice and positive comments. This is indeed a truly rust free car. I doubt it was ever driven in winter and even then I have had it oil sprayed to ensure it stays that way. The paint is almost flawless as well. BaT seems the way to hold. I have a nephew who is a professional photographer but unfortunately lives about 1000 miles away. I may have to invite him up for a visit and pay his airfare! The mileage and my location are certainly limiting factors.
