UK M635 CSI - pricing

Post by Bobo W »

<mods please move if not in right area>

So I'm coming round to the idea that I want to sell my car but I wanted some advice on where prices are before I go any further. Now I know the agreed value for insurance is not a good guide for market prices but as this only seems to be going one way makes me think I maybe be somewhat out of touch on pricing, hence the question. Not sure whether I'd want to sell privately so it may well go to auction although this is not an area I have any experience of.

Brief synopsis - Diamond Shwarz / Cream - 125,000 miles - It's not exactly lacked for a bit of expenditure with all the necessary mechanical bits done plus a few extra like big brake conversion - Full Service history from day 1 - overall condition pretty good - bodywork average (visible bubbling sunroof & front spoiler)

Thanks
Steve

Prices seem to be all over the place at the moment. Whenever I see a UK car for sale I list it on here, as do other members - so you could look through to get a feel for the asking prices (and sometimes sold prices are posted).

There's no doubt that the ones with good bodywork/paint, cam chain change, history and low-ish mileage do regularly fetch around the £20k mark. Some considerably more. But ones which are overpriced seem to stick around for ever. Reference the £30k white one at Motorhub and a couple of apparently excellent (but more expensive) examples with marque specialists. Then there is the non-running red one which was on ebay this week with poor bodywork and the engine out. The vendor obviously has seen the high asking prices over the past couple of years and listed it with a massively over-egged start price and BIN. It failed to attract a single bid.

I am of the opinion that the rally has run out of steam for the time being and its currently a buyers' market. I'm certainly expecting to purchase a good candidate for some remedial work within the next year or so.

Thanks. I'll give it a month or so, then pop it in the private ads and see how we get on from there.
