2 sets of euro bumpers for sale

Post by julianonline »

Hello everyone.

Some time ago I came a cross a couple of euro bumper sets that I wanted for my E24. I eventually sold the car but kept the bumpers. And last year I was lucky to buy a 1981 Euro so I don't have need for these set of bumpers, and I hope someone else can use them for their cars.

I am in Houston Texas and posted the bumpers in craigslist, I figured out it was the easiest way to upload multiple pictures. Here are the links:

https://houston.craigslist.org/pts/d/ho ... 94237.html

One set is for a 1982+ (thin wrap around bumper), and the other is from a E12 based car. Both sets have back reinforce.

The major issue I see is on the front blue bumper that shows some signs of rust on the left section (reflected in the price), I was planning to repair it, or replace it if you find only that part. The rest of the parts will need to be polished and I would suggest to sand and paint the steel to avoid corrosion in the future. I also see in the silver front bumper, missing the rubber trim.

I have them as local pick up, but of course, if someone is interested I can ship them, I would just appreciate advice to find the best option.

Let me know if you have any comment or question, and I will be happy to respond.

Feel free to email me to [email protected]

Thank you.

Don't take this the wrong way but those Euro bumpers you're selling have been federalized with the heavy reinforcement bare steel plates spot welded on the inside. The steel reinforcements are near impossible to remove without damaging the bumper itself and near impossible to properly media blast and paint or powder coat and they rust considerably. Unfortunately, this makes these bumpers actually heavier than the US diving board bumpers, ironic.

I recently sold the identical Euro set you have (with better chrome) front and rear for $500 (for both) and I am also in Houston and a local E24 owner. I hope you get your asking price, but just wanted to give you a heads-up on my own experience. Also, those Euro bumpers are not a bolt on a US car.

Here's a quickie video I shot:

And a picture of what I recently sold ( 2 weeks ago):

Thank you for the comments Slownrusty, I understand and appreciate a lot. The silver set and the 82+ rear bumper are in very good condition, I will double check but I believe the front bumpers have not been welded, and I hope there is something that can be done to protect and avoid corrosion in the future, perhaps someone knows how to do it.

And I am willing to take offers of course.

Thanks again.

A few things come into play. Condition of chrome as the chrome pieces are expensive to either replace or replate. The rubber bits are pricey as well. The fact that the metal is straight is a plus and the fact they are not rotted out is a plus. The reinforcements can be dealt with and shouldn't really be a problem. The rear pan with the off center exhaust exit on the early bumper is a plus as is the early front airdam without fog cut outs. My feelings, and from experience on the early set, is about $500 max, as who ever gets them will end up being in them a minimum of another $500-650 to get them totally right. Basically they are buying cores from you and will be spending time and a lot of effort to get them right. Ask me how I know. I started out with close to a very decent front and put close to $350 into the chrome and rubber alone and another $150 into repair and paint on the airdam. The rear on my car was totally all good but still took another $150 in paint and labor getting the pan straight and painted.

Thank you bpoliakoff for the comments. This helps me a lot to have a better understanding.

Anyone wants to make an offer?

Please send me an email to [email protected]

Also, any recommendation what the best shipping method is to ship these large components?

Thank you and have a great day.

UPS freight was cheapest or Greyhound. Buy the thick roll of plastic (green in color) from Home Depot ($25) and make lots of passes to protect the bumpers, this will allow you to ship without trying to find a huge unobtanium box.

From Houston to Reno, NV (both bumpers) were $350 for shipping by UPS Freight.

Have you checked www.parcelmonkey.com? I have found that through them I sometimes pay 50% less with the same shipper (on a space available basis). May take a little longer but it's worth it.

FYI, I have reduced the price to 850 and 950 + shipping, and I can look for the less expensive option, please check the links for details.

If you have no interested parties here on bigcoupe....I suggest EBAY, I have had lots of success moving e24/e28/e30/e34 items I could not sell elsewhere.

Hello, everyone; I am reviving this old post. After keeping the bumpers and selling a couple of cars (I am still keeping my 1982 635 euro, of course), I am posting the bumpers again.

Here are the links to Facebook Marketplace. I am in Houston and prefer not to ship, but I can support you if you have a way to pick and ship.
