'86 635csi - 5 speed manual - Cinnabar Red - $11,500
I am located in Phoenix, AZ. This car originated in NJ/NY has been on the west coast for many years now. I have owned it since 2015, previous owner was also here in Phoenix. I have gone back and forth over the years with keeping vs selling it but have decided it is time.
I have a stack of more recent service records including over $10,000 in service and parts covering things such as:
Replaced transmission mounts, valve cover gasket, timing cover gasket and front crankshaft seal 2010
New Radiator 2010
Replaced Mass Air Flow Sensor 2010
Replaced control arm bushings 2011
Bavarian Autosport Springs with Bilstein Shocks 2013
Bavarian Autosport adjustable rear camber kit 2013
Replaced Upper and Lower Control Arms 2013
Replaced Brake Kit 2013
Replaced Fuel pressure regulator 2013
Replaced rear sub frame bushings 2014
Replaced Motor mounts 2014
Replaced Clutch Kit 2014
Replaced Oil Pan Gasket 2014
New Fuel Pump, Pre Pump, and fuel filter 2015
Converted AC system to new R-134 Freon 2015
Replaced Alternator 2016
Replaced O2 sensor and Catalytic converter 2019 - Passing AZ emissions with flying colors
Known issues:
- SI board and gauge cluster nonfunctional. 168k indicated miles (odometer is not functioning). The previous owner replaced the odometer gears and it was working for him but apparently has stopped working for me. I estimate I have put 2k miles since I bought it. It has mainly spent time in my garage apart from the occasional weekend cruise or date night.
- Involved in a rear end collision in the late 90's - lower rear panels appear to have been repaired with bondo? See close up pics of the panels directly behind the rear tires.
- Front spoiler is scuffed and paint is damaged
- As you can see in the pics, the paint presents itself fantastically and although there are no glaring defects, up close there are multiple minor dings/scratches. There is an area of paint bubbling on the left rear quarter panel. Also the right front quarter panel paint is slightly faded.
- Had cold air that slowly faded away and found out the AC compressor is leaking oil. Compressor comes on, but no cold air.
Overall the car starts up and runs well and is such a joy to drive. Going to miss the random thumbs up from other drivers on the road and at gas stations. Thanks for looking.

Really nice car and extremely photogenic.
BaT would be a good place to sell your car, take lots and lots of great quality photos and be honest on everything the car needs. Try and fix as much as possible before listing, there are lots of arm chair quarterbacks there, so be ready. On the accident repair and bondo how much exactly, that could be a factor on a) being accepted on Bat and b) the bidding price.
I also have an '86 manual with Recaros and completed much of the same work you have listed, so can relate!
Good luck!

The car is great, but obviously is not perfect. I think sometimes people have unrealistic expectations when buying a 30+ year old car. I have heard BaT is quite picky about what cars they accept for auction. Do they take cars that have maintenance needs like in this case the SI board, compressor, paint defects, etc?Slownrusty wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 11:20 am Really nice car and extremely photogenic.

Uninformed buyers will always have unrealistic expectations. Likewise, sellers, too, often have unrealistic expectations. Maybe they saw a car just like theirs sell for 40k, and they instantly assume that theirs is worth just as much or more regardless of condition. Obviously, the aforementioned is not aimed at you. I only meant in general.howshnazy wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2019 4:26 pmThe car is great, but obviously is not perfect. When prices of certain models rise to unrealistic amounts, such as E24 models have, they become unobtainable to the masses. They end up in the hands of investors, car flippers, and dealers, only to be priced even higher and bought by the 1% that can afford those prices. Before you know it the high prices are accepted as normal. Pretty soon the cars literally price themselves out of existence.
Another issue with rising prices is that the price for parts also rises. The average Joe can no longer afford to buy parts for the car, and the car ends up rotting away in a garage, carport, or outside in the elements.
Regarding BaT, yes, they are extremely picky about what they list. They have sets of criteria that are hard to meet, and each employee handling the listing has a different set of criteria. The whole operation is very biased......if not somewhat corrupt. Whether they'll accept yours for listing or not is not clear. It depends on who handles the listing and if they're in a good or bad mood that day or not. However, be aware that they are under the impression that they control whether or not a reserve is set. When it comes to setting a reserve it is at the discretion of the seller, and ONLY the seller. Not the auction house. So if they try to pull that on you make certain to remind them that setting a reserve is not their decision to make.

Your car is fairly similar to mine and I just posted it up on BaT. You'll probably want to follow it to see if you are in the ballpark of market price for yours. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1989-bmw-635csi-21/

Thanks, hoping your sale goes well. To be fair though yours is a 1989, and automatic, so slightly different ballgame.gskrills wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:26 pm Your car is fairly similar to mine and I just posted it up on BaT.
