Complete tool kit SOLD
This is a good one.
Very very clean and complete kit. Everything there. Original green screwdrivers, not the replacements, hard to find plastic window emergency tool, and a new blue cloth. The small screwdriver has a new blade and the cloth is new. $325 plus shipping

Re: Complete tool kit
What year car is it from Bert? It looks nothing like the kits I have.
The shape is right but most tools are in different places to mine!

Re: Complete tool kit
Ron, I have at least 15 trays in my garage so I can't tell you what year the tray is from, I have trays where all of the wrench locations are slotted which could be what you are thinking of and I just happened to grab this one. I have other trays like this that have no proviso for the Z shaped sunroof tool
I have trays that are slotted where the foam goes in the upper right hand corner instead of the upper left hand corner, I have trays that don't have a small compartment where the blue cloth should fold in to I have trays that provide for a plastic tipped wheel locating pin rather than the tommy bar and on and on.
After thinking about it, I have sold a bunch of these in this configuration over the years, never had an interesting question like yours come up and never had any negative feedback so I never gave it any thought. Maybe a very late car?

Re: Complete tool kit SOLD
That was quick!!
I'd be very interested to know exactly which model(s) this was standard in. My 1987 Highline has the foam insert on the left hand side and is consistent with part number 71111115329 in OEM.

The Highline kit should have a dedicated place with a raised centre spigot for the towing hook on the R/H side.

Re: Complete tool kit SOLD
I was sufficiently intrigued by the image of the for sale/sold toolkit to clear everything of my boot and check on mine. This is from an late Dec 87 build RHD 635 CSiA UK spec Highline. There's quite a difference!

Re: Complete tool kit SOLD
The tray isn't the issue. The tools are. The tools will also go into the slotted tray. The tray shown is just a vehicle to display the tools. However there is no reason the other tray can not be used. There are 3-4 different configurations of trays I have. Yes Plip I agree with the tray you show. However your kit is incomplete. You are missing both the emergency window tool and the blue cloth. So these things should be added into the mix. One also has to remember. at least in the states, the cars did not come with the tools installed from the factory. They were put in at the dealer ship probably by a lot attendant /get ready boy and are what they grabbed. That is also why there is no true date on when they switched from red to green screwdrivers.

Re: Complete tool kit SOLD
Hi Bert - I'm not seeing the window tool in my set, nor does it show up in RealOEM for my car ('88 M6). Do you have the part number, or better yet a few spares to sell to us completists? Note that I do have the metal crank part with two 90-degree bends.bpoliakoff wrote: ↑Sat Apr 11, 2020 7:34 pm ...However your kit is incomplete. Also, do you have a source for repro cloths? There's a seller on eBay from South Africa that has them for $15 + $5 shipping, but I'm open to alternatives. EDIT: this eBay seller turned out to be a dud. I've left negative feedback in the Vendor Feedback section
Cheers,
Paul

Re: Complete tool kit SOLD
For $15 grab them. I have been selling them for 5 year for $40. If he is that cheap I will buy some from him. Those plastic adapters are on Ebay for $50-$70

Re: Complete tool kit SOLD
I've seen some images of trays with the raised centre spigot, but mine doesn't have it and I know the tray is 99.99% as originally supplied with the car (I've owned the car since 1992).
Does the number that's shown on my tray give any clues ie 1 117 105 0?
I have an OE blue cloth and the lack of the emergency window tool is correct (for my car) because I don't need one.

Understand but then why is there a place in your tray for it??plip1953 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 8:30 amI've seen some images of trays with the raised centre spigot, but mine doesn't have it and I know the tray is 99.99% as originally supplied with the car (I've owned the car since 1992).

Re: Complete tool kit SOLD
I suppose I would turn the question round and ask why some cars need the window tool and others don't - was there a specific cutoff/changeover date? Maybe the decision was taken not to bother changing the tray shape to match not needing the tool? The lack of a raised spigot for the tow hook (on my tray) is another conundrum.bpoliakoff wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 12:55 amUnderstand but then why is there a place in your tray for it??plip1953 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 12, 2020 8:30 amI've seen some images of trays with the raised centre spigot, but mine doesn't have it and I know the tray is 99.99% as originally supplied with the car (I've owned the car since 1992).

In similar vein, why would my car have been supplied with a 395mm TRX wheel for a spare? I've posted up that question in another thread, but suspect it was most likely simply what was to hand at that time and was adequate for the job, albeit not ideal. Another oddity in my view was that some early UK spec Highlines didn't have the full leather interior. Again, I can only presume that BMW either felt the need to use up an excess of older parts, or perhaps more likely, they didn't have a sufficient supply of the leather items when the changeover was made.

Bert, why don't you just start a new thread, as many members probably won't look at this one, since the item, which is not the cloths, is noted as sold
