Got the old girl back today

Post by feck »

Picked her up this afternoon from Fritz's Bits after having a complete stainless system fitted. Rich tells me it's the first Highline to have the whole system done by him. It sounds purposeful but quite subdued without that chav boy racer sound

The best part is the performance, what a difference!! drove all the way back to Plymouth with a big smile

A few quick pics I've just taken, can't really see a lot:

You can just make out the manifold.

I'm well chuffed with the result, many thanks Rich

....and how much did this little lot cost you, including VAT :?:

What is that?

Feck, in the last picture, what is the 'black' semi-rusty 'thing' on the left of the shot? I just can't place it?
Its not a 'home-made' air intake system is it? I dont mean to cause any offence, but the pic has me all confused.

My new exhaust sounds purposeful, isn't too subdued & definitely doesn't give one the feeling of being a boy-racer. They don't do over 1600cc do they?!

Nice system I would guess, just a tad much for my budget unfortunately, but I'm not unhappy with mine. Its going to benefit from a custom-made tubular manifold over the next month or so - can't wait. :D

Hey guys, I'm looking around for a new exhaust system as well. I plan to keep the cost under $1000.00 usd. Any recommedations, I want to find something nice, but the sound is very important. I don't want it to sound like a rice rocket. I would appreciate any comments.

Feck, what kind of exhaust system you got there?
Dave how bout yours?

Mine was custom-made in stainless steel & custom fitted to my car.
You are a bit far away to do that!

The system that Feck & Brucey have got can be supplied mail order in the UK (& elsewhere I would guess, but don't know for sure) & be fitted by yourself, depending on competency, access to ramps & such like.
Brucey fitted his himself, Feck had his fitted by the exhaust maker/supplier - Fritz Bitz in Somerset England.

My system is louder IMHO than the Fritz one, but its not loud to the point of thinking rice -rocket, but does really allow one to hear that 6 cylinder lump. I was after a particular sound with mine & I love it, as does my wife & 14 yr old son. It instantly puts a grin on your face when you first fire it up.
Don't forget, getting a 3.5litre 6 cylinder lump to be quiet is actually quite difficult, just look & feel (the weight) of the factory system, its huge silencing areas (baffle type) etc etc.
I think a straight 6 is one of the best engine sounds you can listen to, IMHO better than a V8, although at times my Highline with its ss exhaust has been mistaken for a large capacity V8.

Ivan, the cost, when it goes into production will be ?1150 + VAT, I'm not telling you what I paid for it

Dave, the semi rusty thing is actually the bottom of the air-box, if you look in the top left of the pic you can just see the filter. I've got a new one to fit this week (that isn't rusty!!) which is a slightly different shape at the bottom, maybe you've got the same type?

Miguel, it's a made to measure system, including manifold. As Dave says, it's manufactured by a company over here in Somerset that specialise in the "older" BMW models, E21, E24 and E28 etc. I've got nothing but praise for the guys there, what a place they've got. Check them out at:

Miguel,
I heard good things about those guys http://www.ravenperformance.com/exhaust.htm, actually, someone from the board memebers have their system installed.
I don't have their exhaust on my car yet, but when time will come, definately I'll put one.
