Ed,

This is the first chance I've had to see your car since you got her back. Wow! She is certainly looking great! Have you had a chance to drive her around much? I'm like you the heat is killer here too!

I will need to chwck in with Nat when I get ready for the A/C upgrade. I also agree with the 3M tint. Looks like the 90 or 70 would be nearly invisible but still cut down on heat and especially the UV rays killing our interiors.

Again, great looking 6-er. Can't wait to see it in person. Let me know if you are heading to Spartanburg or Greenville.

Hi Phil, thank you for your kind comments.

Hi Eric, thank you as well. I'm beginning to take Crystal on some short runs to flush out all the little issues that are sure to develop after her 10 year hibernation. I don't want to get too far from home until I'm satisfied something won't develop that will strand me. It won't be long before I'll be making a run across the border to SC. I'll be sure to give you a call so we can get together and share notes on the AC upgrade.

Frankly. it has been so miserable hot here for the last month ( 95 to 97F with 65 to 80% humidity ) that I have not done much with Crystal.

I am having some issues with the temperature gage and have begun to troubleshoot that issue. Fortunately I have an IR temperature gun that can be used to confirm that things are not getting too hot while I get the issue sorted.

One thing that I have found an easy fix for is the fact that I was having to slam the passenger door really hard to get it to latch. A little research here on the BMW forums found that part number 51211809735 was missing from the door latch mechanism. I received it today, and after snapping it in place .... the passenger door now latches with a gentle slam :D

On a sad note. It seems my newly refinished Alpina wheels have developed some blisters in the paint around the valve stems. I'm going to need to get
this sorted out with the refinisher.

Whoa!!! I was fixing to replace door seals that I thought were hard and swollen and what I thought was the source of that same problem. Sure enough I was missing that little white knob on my passenger side mechanism. So to confirm that was the fix, borrowed the drivers side knob for a test and bingo - problem solved! Thanks Ed - never would have figured that out.

Sorry about the wheels.

Ed,

Crystal is stunning; you are rightfully proud of her.

I now remember seeing your very-impressive M6 at SharkFest in Winston this past May when Dawn and I attended The Vintage with our Zinno E30, Lil' Red. A truly fine car; I can only hope that I manage to locate a CSi half as nice as Crystal!

Thank you for your kind words, Jeff. I spent a lot of time (about 18 months) searching for the "right" car to start this project. What I'm getting now is the payoff :D If you take your time and be patient, you can do the same with the 635 you are looking for now. Since we are in reasonable proximity, I'll be glad to help you in any way I can. Good luck with your search.

I've put just under 1500 miles on Crystal since her resuscitation. Other than a few minor issues, she has been a joy to own.
Today was a beautiful fall day here in western North Carolina so I took her for a drive. Here are a few photos from this morning's drive in the foothills of the Smokie mountains.

Ed,

M6 looks great, scenery looks great. It appears that you may have taken the photos at a park; which one?

Thank you all for your kind words. Fall is a beautiful time of the year here in western NC. Temps are mild and the colors are a sight to behold. Just a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the scenery.
These pictures (except the last one) were all shot on the entrance road to a friend's house.

New shoes for Crystal

Post by Ed Lyerly »

I mentioned in a previous post in this thread that I had some bubbling under the paint on several of my newly refinished Alpinas. I tried touching them up by hand ..... but am not satisfied with the results. I thought the upcoming winter season (when I'm driving her very little) would be an ideal time to have them refinished. I had the good fortune to acquire a set of Hartge 17x8.5 wheels (et 13) recently and will be swapping them out for a new look this winter. I'll post some photos of them on the car in a few days. It will be interesting to see how they compare with the Alpinas.

You got them! I was looking at those too! Hahaha. I guess we have very similar taste. If I didn't have the Alpinas, I would have Hartge wheels. =D> If I had a sweet Euro E28, I would have Hartge wheels  Congrats on the sweet wheels.
