Looks great Ed, where did you find the low profile valve stems? If I ever decide to fix up paint on your old Alpinas I'd like to get a set too.

Hi Lee,
Thanks very much for your kind words about Crystal. I had a great time at SESF #10 ! What a wonderful weekend of friends and fun :D
I'm sorry you did not have time to prepare Cosmo .... so she could be entered into the judging. She is a wonderful car ..... hope you can enter her next year.
She has been a prize winner since the day you bought her =D>
It was great hooking up with you and Cosmo for a 150 mile mini-convoy to Knoxville, TN. It was better yet when we hooked up with Anita's group from Winchester, VA in Knoxville. Then it was like an 80 MPH parade of 20 or so 6ers for the next 275 miles into Scottsboro ...... just AWESOME !!!

I would like to get in touch with the owner of the Cypress Green Euro, people's choice winner, if possible :-?

Ya just don't see very many 6ers this color, and since I own another, I would like compare notes, etc.

Thank you kind sir

Looks like the event was a hoot 8)

That looks awesome Ed, the car looks stunning.

It's such an impressive looking machine, those wheels are far and away the best looking setup on her from the options you tried.

I'd love to see more pics so please keep them coming. Image

Regards,
Ellis.

Thank you Ellis :D I agree with your thinking on the wheels, and these will be my choice going forward.
Here are a couple shots that Lee (e24mpwr) took .... he definitely has better camera skills than I do. The third shot is of Lee's Cosmos, and it shows the color better than I've seen in a photo before. The last shot show's Kai's M635 on the left, and Nat's recently acquired M635 on the right .... with Lee's in the middle. That threesome looks fantastic with the lake in the background =D>

I have been wanting to replace the insulation/sound deadening material inside Crystal's hood for some time. It was oil stained and trying to clean it just resulted in it crumbling and coming apart. I also wanted to replace the sad looking labels. Here is what the underside of the hood looked like when I started.

By r_e_l at 2012-05-18
The labels were in awful shape:

I covered the engine bay with plastic film and scraped the crumbling material away. I also removed the old labels and replaced them with fresh ones.

I used this 3M contact adhesive which is advertised for underhood application.
I was warned that standard 3M 77 adhesive was not suitable for this application. Here is a shot of the product I used:

I taped everything off and applied the adhesive to both the hood and the new insulating/sound deadening panels. I used wax paper to keep the parts from bonding until I had them properly located .... then removed it and pressed the parts together. Here are the results. It certainly looks much better on the back side of the hood now ..... and I won't have to avoid that area any longer when taking photos of the engine bay.

Also shown in the photos is a glimpse of my new all aluminum radiator from Wizard Cooling. I won't have to worry any more about the plastic radiator neck on the stock radiator failing. The aluminum welding done on this product is outstanding.

Last week I received my new cloisonne mosport emblems from Jack Koppen (Cactusjack1 on the e28 forum)
http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=105270&highlight=
These new cloisonne emblems look really nice .... so I replaced my original roundells with them for the "Vintage" event held in Winston-Salem, NC last Saturday. At the show, I received very positive comments on these new emblems .... and I personally like them a lot. What are your thoughts ?

I'd definitely wear them on my 6er. Look great! I saw that thread over there a while ago. Don't you also have center caps to match for one of your numerous sets of wheels?

Tell me Ed, how does the grommet for the front nose emblem come off to release the roundel backer plate? I've got to order a new one as somebody helped themselves to mine - just the roundel emblem, not the backer piece. So I need to replace the entire fixture.

Thanks - Mark

Hi Mark,
It doesn't ..... The backer plate and the emblem is one piece (perhaps it uses some sort of adhesive to hold it in place). You remove the entire assembly by using something like a screwdriver (but plastic) and prying under what you are referring to as the backer plate. It has two studs that fit into two plastic bushings that are pressed into two holes in the hood. It is just a friction fit :D

Thank you for your compliment, Konrad. There is always something to fix or improve with a 27 year old car .... but .... she is a labor of love :D

Mark, thanks for your kind words as well. Yes, I have made some of Jack's cloisonne mosport emblems into wheel centers. He makes several sizes of these great looking emblems.

these new roundell's are definitely unique~ they make your M635 stand out from other M's and 6ers alike. The ///M badge colors coordinate well with roundell colors and IMO, elevate the ///M Supercar status!

Btw~ new radiator looks ~hot~ 8)

Thank you kindly, World-Class6 :D These may not find favor with those intent on keeping the car stock as delivered .... but I really like how they look on the car. I'm going to enjoy these for the rest of this season at a minimum.
I love the peace of mind the all aluminum radiator gives me compared to a stock replacement with the plastic hose connection points.

I have been doing some searches on the forum for the SI Board Replacement, came across your comments from several years ago.. Great write up however the link for cluster removal and the batteryless SI board wont connect anymore.
Do you still have access to that info and has the board been reliable?

Thanks in advance,

Iain
