Testing out a new look - Hartge 3pc

I really like the original BBS 3-piece on this car but have always drooled over the Hartge wheels.
She's riding a little high so thinking about lowering springs. Gonna call Paddock in Denver as he did 5280M6's and it looks sinister.

Those are nice wheels, I am afraid to say I like the BBS better. Just my opinion.

I agree but sometimes you've got to switch things up to keep it fresh and these are FRESH.

I like the BBS's and this set alike~if you can afford to have 2-3 sets of wheels for the 6er, will guarantee a fresh feel when rotating them every few months! Very nice look overall and lowering the suspension will surely cause more excitement 8)

AWESOME !!!! Just awesome Aaron =D> I've been a fan of those Hartge wheels ever since I saw them on orval2's M635.
I agree ...... a tad lower would look better, and I'm thinking of doing the same to my M635 with same size Alpinas.
Put me down for a PM if you ever decide to part with them.
What tire sizes did you finally choose ?

I agree, I have the 93 M 5 throwing stars on my M 6. I would give my first born to have a set of 17" BBS wheels with the gold centers, LOL

235/45 and 264/40 ;I am surprised to say they really smooth out the ride.

I assume you ordered H&R springs to fit standard 635 as your Vader mobile (M6) wouldn't allow for these unless self-leveling had benn removed? Do you have part # from your H&R box?

Hi,

That is a nice compliment you make me.

To lower the car, it is more difficult to find the good solution for a M635 as the front suspension differs from all other E24.
The rear set is the same as the other E24 but the front one are different and need mods (I do not know which one) to adapt lowering suspension for standard E24.

Another solution is mine, but it is not a big lowering. I have now Alpina suspension kit. It is compose of specific Bilstein shock absorber and specific Eibach spring. The standard M635 have -2 cm springs, the Alpina are -3 cm.
The price of the Alpina set is just a bit more expansive than the M635 one.

Is the Alpina suspension kit just shocks and srpings? I have new Bilstein Sport shocks and could order the Eibach. Do you have the part number for the Eibachs?

I noticed when lowering the front the lowered springs were slightly smaller dia than the factory ones. Luckily I had the old e28 hardware that fitted perfectly.

Otherwise no hassle.
I've heard u need to fit some roll center correction blocks but mine works fine without them.

Hartge looks really nice, maby it would like nicer with the body more lowered to the ground!?
I would really love to se your E24 with style 5 BBS, with blankblack center and highpolished lips!

A,

Yes, the H&R Sport springs I used I believe are the same for the '88-'89 635csi as well as the '88 M6. Both have the rear SLS, which I replaced with this spring and shock modification (I kept the rest of the SLS system intact in case the car is returned to stock at some point, but you don't have to worry about that since your Euro M635csi didn't have the SLS =D> ).

The part #'s for the H&R springs I believe are what are marked on each spring - Rear is marked "50428" and Front is marked "50413." I'll add a couple of pics below of a front and rear spring for reference.

Orval raises a good point: There may be suspension differences between your year of the Euro M635csi and the US spec M6 like mine. I'm not certain, but I would suspect the H&R springs and Bilstein Sport shocks would be the same fitment for any E28 based 6'er. Maybe there are other suspension differences between these production runs (sway bar sizes? Control arms?) that would lead one to a different shock/spring combo for the M635csi? Why cant' these mods be simple?? #-o

Hi,

It is a complete kit : springs + shock absorbers.
Part Number is 31 00 611 for "standard" E24 (serie 2 and 3, based on the E28)
and 31 00 612 for the M635CSI.

I took pics of my springs with their Alpina reference. Maybe you can try to order them seperately :

Thank you so much for the info. $3500 USD yikes!!!!! #-o I'll ask the distributor if I can order the springs separate since I just installed new Bilstein Sports all around.

How much did the springs lower your car? 20-25 mm?

OMG, I paid mine 1260? (1551$) for the complete set !!!
If I believe what is written on the spring, they are - 3cm when the Motorsport are -2cm
It is hard to say. My previous suspension was dead, so I did not measure before/after. But I am very satisfied witht the set. But honnestely, I am not sure you will see a difference between the Motorsport and the Alpina one. Alpina one are ot so low.
Maybe H&R have some lower.

This has standard ///M suspension, mine Alpina.
Like this you can see the (small) difference. Mine is a bit lower.
