Hijack it, by all means, I'm on holiday in Lapland. Yesterday in Lapland I met a guy a BMW enthusiast who is still running ms I on his 1000 hp m20 powered e30. It was built a decade ago and still running high nines.

About my project: for better fuel economy, been thinking about putting MAF back. Don't think i will, but been thinking.

Excuse my ignorance but what is exactly in the 60-2 trigger?

Hi Chris
With EFI systems you need to be able to measure crankshaft speed and position in relation to top dead centre on no.1 cylinder. There are several different ways to achieve this. A 60-2 system is a method of doing this with a single sensor, the front crankshaft pulley has teeth on the outside with one tooth every 6 crankshaft degrees resulting in 60 teeth (6 x 60 = 360). Two teeth are missing one at TDC and one at BDC. The missing teeth allow the ECU to know the crankshaft position and the time between the each of the other teeth allows the ECU to know the speed. This system is so accurate that on later Motronic systems the ECU can calculate individual cylinder contribution to engine torque by measuring and comparing the acceleration of the crankshaft between individual firing events.
Earlier systems like on the E24 use two separate sensors in the gearbox bell housing.

I tried using the original sensor spots at first. I made a custom flywheel with 6-1 teeth, then replaced the other sensor with a hall-sensor. Couldn't make it work and I tried. The only way of doing it using the older S38-parts.

And also the S38B36 sensor bracket (nr. 13) http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E34/S ... ming_case/ attaches to older M88 block. Even more perfect the m52 hall sensor also fits in this bracket and that sensor can be used with most of the aftermarket ecus. http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/12141703277/

I have a cherry though.

Thanks Dave and Mikko for the detailed descriptions. A quick search looks like the S38 pulley and hub are different parts so I;m not sure the 60-2 vibration damper would bolt on.

First option though would be to see if the flywheel triggers are up to the job. has been some time since I last spoke to the link tuner but he didn't alert to any potential problems here.

What engine? Pretty sure that damper is a bolt on.

I can't wait to start enhancing the m88. Just in the money collecting phase now. Hopefully there will be another 350+ bhp m88 before Xmas.

You're right about that color! Also, the car is in a nearly perfect setting;
what with the green foliage, the red houses & the grey driveway.
Perfect, except for that darn light post!
The most beautiful color, along with Kastienerot!

I agree with you gents. I've always been a fan of bright reds :D but there is just something stunning about the e24 in this darker shade of red. It looks so elegant and fits quite perfectly with all the lines and trim pieces.

I know mikko's had the S38 converted into it, but were there any M cars actually made in this color? I don't think i've ever seen one.

It's been quite a while since my last update or even login to this site, but I still have the car and it looks exactly the same as in pics on the previous page. Well, the BBS caps are back on, but that's it. I've done around 30000 km (20000 miles) in total with the engine, it works and more importantly sounds great with that carbon airbox.

It was yesterday when I finally backed it out to "sunlight" and gave it a three step wash. After that, short test drive and oil change. Weather has been poor here through the whole the spring, but it's all summer now. At least to me.

+1 on the carbon airbox. Would like to see pictures and know where you got it from.

Also, can you give more details (including pics) of your brake setup?

Great looking sixxer!

+2 on the carbon airbox (I assume you mean the plenum). I'm about to do the same thing, albeit with an S38B36.
