Cosmo says "Hello from South Germany" 1985 628 Long Story and pictures.. :-)

Post by honyama »

Hello,

thanks for activating my account.

I´m a September 1985 produced, cosmosblue metallic painted, CS/1 628 CSIA with options automatic sun roof, sport seats pacific, heated nozzels and door locks, color windows and TRX Tires. The first owner equipped me further with speed control, air condition, original BMW trunk canister and a hitch trailer. The last thing will change my life in a few years... but later on.

My first owner was a doctor from South-Germany- so I changed lovely bavaria to the swabian- yes where Mercedes is located. I was happy with my carefull owner for about 15 years. We went together in holiday and he drove me daily. In the new century he wanted to have a swabian car- and swapped myself in teenage age into a Mercedes- his biggest mistake ever. But as you know it.. in teenage age you get your first pustels. So I got to a person you cleaned my little bit rusty chassis and put a front & rear spoiler to myself- yeah, I´m getting a "man".

After some cosmetic repairs he drove me for a while and bought his next project... so I came to the most beautiful area ever- South Germany near the lake of Constance. There I´ve been the 25. car of a freaky car collector. He loved my colour and the automatic transmission. I got the job to drive him from South-Germany to North Germany as luxurios as you can. Of course- the best job for me- that was between ca. 2002-2004. Then he cheated me with a younger car, but I stayed dry with all the other vintage cars... not that bad....but in 2008 I had to go with only 220.000 KM. I don´t wanna end as a retired worker. Then I came to a small city near the home of Mercedes ( Stuttgart). I stood all the time in a Garage till 2015. Sometimes the older guy drove myself, but his dream was to pimp my self with big wheels and so on... HELP HELP HELP, wanna go back to the south.. HELP..

Oh my god, I got an advertisment on the internet, but nobody wants/ed to pay about 8000 Euros for me, cause I havn´t been driven for about 10 years.. It took 2 years and a young student took a look on me in the dusty garage. He already hat a silver 628 in "bad condition". He was gentle, checked my options and seemed to be quite okay, but quite young.. to young for me indeed.

It took over half a year but he bought me and what- he drove me back to Southgermany- thank god. Therefore I wanna be as gentle as I can.

Now, to my latest owner.. strange guy. 25 years old, Student and also a strange collector of Vintage stuff like a 1974 RD350..

Image

.. or 50 cc 2stroke bikes from eastern Germany (GDR!!)

Image

.. or completly crazy Vintage Suzuki Motocross bikes

Image

You can see them http://www.honyama.ag.vu

Yeah, the owner is a little bit crazy, but he really loves me. I got a new number plate and now I´m one year in his garage and he changed my complete life. When the automatic transmission died, he started his work... he equipped myself with a manual shifted 218 HP 3,5 L Engine. I also got a limitded slip at the rear wheels, Bordcomputer 2, wipers cleaners, fire extinguisher on drivers seat, automatic antenna, seat heaters front and for the rear seats, a very rare Valvoline oil level Matic, Zender Spoilerkit and Melber Tires...

Wanna see myself now....?

Here, have a look on me:
Image
Image
Image

Did you notice rear seat heating? Everybody laught at the young owner, but its great, isn´t it? (With E30 parts)
Did you also see the volt gauge below radio? I also have some more.. ;-)

Image
Image
The engine pre owner painted my gerneral checked heart red.. maybe we´ll chance that in the future..

So.. yeah..
Image

Yeah.. since 3 month with historic number plate- I´m so proud !!!!

But, the real cool thing is.. the young guy shows the world to me and I´m allowed to do things normal guys don´t do with me (nowadays).. e.g. 20.000 KM in one year with winter pause!... or picking up a 2,8 l Z3 for a friend...

Or last weekend we went to France with Motocross

Image

The picture of the other gauges- sorry :

Image
Set is from Roland- I also found a link here in the bigcoupe.

Yeah, also another funny story. 2 weeks ago I got another job.. 320i E30 prefacelift 500 bucks.. why not..

So I picked up my little son. Its the next project, BUT...

Image

.. before I need your help.

My crazy owner won´t stop, before he has ALL options in his car. He still needs rear head rests, BMW Sound-System and electric seats.

Electric seats are impossible to get, but rear head rests and a Sound-System cover should be possible- PLEASE HELP and offer these parts.

So, I hope, i didn´t rape the english language to crazily and looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

hony with his Cosmo. (or the other way round)

PS: We also met the first owner again and we´re having still contact. He´s very happy that I´m still alive. =D>

Cool car! Like the first person car narrative too.

Love the interior - tell us more about the volt gauge and the heated rear seats - v. v. cool.

Hello Rob,

the volt gauge was special made for me by Roland (who also produces the oil temperature and pressure set)- only problem: You can´t see it that good because its a little bit too low under the radio. Ask Roland- wasn´t that expensive. I really love the 80s styling and it fits perfectly to the BC.

Heated rear seats- I hate covers and prefer knobs to press, so I took the wiring/knobs of a E30 BMW and bought on ebay heated mats, cut them as you need them and put them into the rear seats. I also drilled 2 holes into the seat, to install the wiring, that you can´t see it. The connectors of the original BMW E30 wiring can be used, when you buy the connectors of a Personal computer power distribution. If you want, I can go and take some detail pictures. The best thing is- the knobs fit without any changes/cutting! And if I get one day a "original freak" I can remove everything without any damages.

Its a lot of work, but afterwards your the luckiest man on earth and it looks like original! :D :D And then drive at cold temperatures with 3 guests and they will also love you for that.

But don´t forget the fuse!

Kind regards and thanks

Hony

PS: Does nobody have rear headrests for sale?

Back to the seat heating front and rear:

I bought these seat heater mats, which you can cut:

If you want to use the original Pins of the wiring+knobs, you can use them:

I have a second complete identical sport seat set in the garage. The side of the seats has been also fixed ( only difference: blue fabric instead of leather)

Would swap the entire set against a BMW Sound System and rear head rests.

Yes sir! Those pictures are excellent. I'd love to have houndstooth cloth sport seats. Everyone seems to want leather. They obviously haven't had to sit on black leather in 95°F and 80% humidity.

Hello,

i also have 2 complete seat covers over in the pacific styling for sport seats- maybe an option for you. Get some (leather or different colour) sport seats and swap them into pacific seats by changing the covers.- rear plates should be identical from your seats, aren´t they?

Do you have more pictures of your car/seats? Have never seen the styling with "normal" seats- looks also quite cool. I had another 628 CSI before with normal seats- their also quite good, when you don´t have too much weight/kilometers on them.

Kind regards

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=24110&p=195039#p195039

if you are willing to sell them. what are you asking?
Think the seats are the same as in the E30 coupe ? so should be able to find a set.
Never seen the pacific seats other than in my car, so to come over someone who has multiple sets and spare seat covers...

Hello Forum,

I forgot to post a picture of the new head rests.

Furthermore Cosmo and I had to play transporter- very comfortable for the rear passengers. We picked up a 1988 BMW R80 (ex German Police Motorbike) fully restored and made a 1000 Km trip without any problem.

I think 30 years ago, this has been the 100.000 German Mark luxury overkill. Coming to the clubs with E24 and BMW-Motorbike while listening to Modern Talking & wearing Miami Vice smokings with big sun glasses!

Oh.. wish that I could visit/go the 1980s and feel the crazy time full of amazing colours, hair styles and perfect Italo dance music.

Let the 80s come back... or enjoy the riding/driving culture nowadays. \:D/ \:D/

Kind regards

Hey,

reading your posts makes me finally no longer struggling of myself. I'm no longer the only young german guy fascinated by technics and lifestyle of the 80s. [-o< Well I guess I'm four years older but that shouldn't be a big difference.
Currently I'm trying to find a good selection for a mixtape (a real cassette!) for my M635. Searching on Spotify easily exposed more than 90 minutes of awesome music...
