Shouldn't have any chrome (apart from the nose grill surrounds). Should all be "satin black". Your rear light surrounds are still chrome so maybe someone has painted out the chrome and forgot them!
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

That's probably more the case :D
I'll have to get the rear chrome painted. Quite like the look of the black although the Gold badges and pinstripe have to go!!!

Well, that pinstripe looks OEM, but I think Ron might have the wider style Euro stripes in mind, which have the same profile but also vary in width between the upper and lower stripes :-k

And those gold emblems are SO 80's

Yeah, those have to go [-X

Nice find, best of luck and please keep us posted on your progress =D>

Also ordered two overhaul kits for the front calipers and renewed all of the brake pipes (the front ones seemed ok but back ones were well pitted.)

Well just because it been off the road for 6 years. Don't care how well it goes for now as long as it stops!!!!!!

Then they had a poke around ..
2 front steering arms, rubbers were "gone"!
2 rear suspension link bars
2 rear subframe bushes.

Let's hope the Suns shining \:D/

Nice looking car. Looks like you've got a lot of body work to do.
What does your garage expect to complete by Friday?

I think you are at a crossroads with that car .
You can either repair the rust properly by carefully cutting away the rot and rebuilding the areas with fresh correctly shaped sections welded ,linished, sealed and then painted to a level that will prolong the life of the car and add inherent value to it , or your man can patch it and cover it in underseal .
I'd advise the removal of the front wings , carpets & front and rear seats to inspect the subframe bolt mounts . The wiring loom runs along the floor on both sides of the floor where the square pads are and the repair required to the gusset adjacent to the strut can only be properly done with the wing off, this will also allow you to inspect the rear of that area ( at the bulkhead ) that is prone to rust too . That subframe area ( and the other side ) really wants deep investigation to ensure all rust is removed or it'll be back to haunt you or the next owner........

Good luck & keep us posted as to how you get on .

It was only ever going to be patched to make it structurally sound and safe.

I can't justify spending what would be needed on the bodywork. It would have been easier to buy a one in better condition.!!!

The problem I've got is the car sits outside on the drive, and hardly gets used.....Once a week if I'm lucky. I bought it because I've always wanted one but can't justify buy a "mint condition" one, the wife would shoot me (this is car number 5 at the moment) so my plan was to buy a "cheap" one, Get it road legal and mechanically sound and enjoy it for a year or 2, then sell it on. Hopefully to someone who has the skills/enthusiasm/time and money to sort the bodywork out.

Till then I'll just enjoy it when I can and continue to sort out its little Gremlins!!(I've just put a post up regarding the speedo!!).

Cheers.
