September 1988 build. Purchased 2006

Post by aap1966 »

My daily driver.
One of the last 25 to come into Australia.
Just had all rust taken out (not that much there thankfully), new seals, new windscreen, new paint.

I think it polishes up pretty well..............

Dang, she's purdy =D>

Love the Shadowline trim, really pops on that dark paint color

Which, by the way, is :-k

Any story behind the Alpina deco striping :-?

Again, lovely example, would love to hear more [-o<

I agree with GRNSHRK, the shadowline is perfect =D> . I think, I'll do that for mine sooner or later as well, the grey color I have already
Except for the steering wheel being on the wrong side, this is my preferred sixer look.

Thanks guys.
The colour is "Delphin grey", the original colour.
BMW Australia sold the e24 until about 1982, then discontinued the model. In 1985, Jim Richards ran a 635 CSi (no, not a M6) in the ATCC (Australian Touring Car Championship), and won the series. On the back of that, BMW Australia started selling the 635 again. The M6 was never available in Australia, although a few have crept in as private imports from New Zealand, Japan and the UK, (and maybe South Africa??).

The last 25 635s imported by BMW Australia in 1988/89 were the Delphin grey, shadowline trim. I don't know the numbers of Auto vs manual, but mine is an auto.

I have the original books, and have been meaning to track down the original purchaser (assuming they are still alive): it'd be neat to let him know that the car is still on the road.

Some cars were sold with dealer fitted Alpina parts in the 80's, but no turbos. (There is at least one B7 Turbo in Brisbane, Australia, but I only know about that from talking to my mechanic--(it's a real money-no-object car though, and it shows)--I don't know it's back story. Anyway, as the 80s was my formative decade, I always liked the Alpina look on the 5s and 6s, so when the paint was being done, I decided to go the whole way. I put an "Alpina" badge on the nose, so real Alpina enthusiasts would recognise it as a fake. I wanted it as an homage to the 1980s Alpinas, not trying to fool anyone.
I knew it would happen, just not so soon.

Looks very nice indeed and those Style 29 wheels are an excellent choice.
