I got my title from the seller, It lists it as a L6A, The trunk shows 635CSI as well as when I ran the VIN on the decoders. It does have leather everywhere except the dash. Is this the Highline L6 version?

The L6 is a one-year-only US version 635 CSia, and its distinguishing feature is all that extra leather, and the L6 trunk badge. It wasn't technically called the Highline in the US. If it's got the incorrect truck badging, perhaps it was just the previous owner's change, incorrect accident/repaint repair, or who knows?. Not a big deal, and easily fixed. If it's got the leather dash, it's an L6 (unless it's an '87 M6). Even if it doesn't, there's the possibility the dash was replaced, which BMW sometimes had to do, soon after the cars were delivered. That leather dash was a bad choice for the US climate. Confused yet?

I did read about dealers replacing the leather dashes due to warpage. Mine has a leather glove box, drivers knee bolster and console so I am sure it's factory. The car has been repainted so someone may have added the emblems. The title shows L6A. So the correct trunk emblems should be L6?

My understanding is L6's were built for year of 1987 build only. Please post your vin number. Roger

WBAEC8413J3267709, curious as to why the title lists it as a L6A, that is not something you can change?

Well, it's really just a trim level designation, nothing otherwise special about an L6. You might try getting the title changed at the local DMV office, but I'll bet I could find better ways to spend my time. Roger is right, though, '87 is the only year for the US L6.

Sounds like your car is spec'd like mine. I have a 1989 635, with all the leather except the dash. But it is definitely a 635csi.

One telltale sign, as the L6 has been duly noted as an '87 only model year, is that it would not have world bumpers, as shown on yodman's example [-X

I also seem to recall (as this topic has been discussed about a million times #-o ) that the model labeling tag just carried over into 1988 and was not reprinted to indicate the model as being a 635 CSi :-"

When the US version ///M6 came out in 1987, BMW thought they would be cute and call the "standard" model the L6 \:D/

Bottom line, don't think I would get too wrapped up around the axle about this
