New to me 1986 635csi

Post by WISE9UY »

Hello All,

I've lurked on here and then been registered on here for nearly a year having had a long time appreciation for the E24. It all started a over two decades ago when my father imported an Alpina B7 into Australia, which he kept for 13 years before returning to Europe. The years rolled on and finally I now back into what are now "vintage" BMWs. I had purchased a couple E24s last year that I used for parts to aid my E9 project and then purchased a third Callaway Turbo 633csi (1980), that I had hoped would be worth bringing back. However the seller over represented the car and I could not justify investing in that one. However just a couple weeks ago I finally picked one up that is a solid candidate to bring back to full glory.

It is a 1985/11 build 635csi black on black with extended leather, sport seats, sunshade, M-Tech steering wheel, premium sound, M-tech rear spoiler and front spoiler, ABS, LSD and factory 5-speed. It rides on sport springs with Bilstein sport shocks on factory BBS RS. Overall this is a very nice build that attracted me to the car. It is a great 10 footer and with a little time will receive fresh front leather, paint and all mechanical attention where needed. However, as it is, it runs and drives so that is a good start. Anyway, I am happy to be a legitimate member!

Great-looking car, and that leather on the front seats can easily be restored, Leatherique makes products for this sort of project, which I've used and gotten very nice results from. Check out this interior restoration thread from another member who documented the process:

Thanks for the tip on Leatherique! That is good to know and will probably use them once I get the front seats redone and then I can match the rest of the car to that. It was a concern as to how all the leather will match up but I think that will be a good strategy! Sadly the driver seat does have a couple tears, but that said, maybe I can restore just those sections. Food for thought!

Great find. Those wheels look like BBS RS 211. Also look at http://www.leatherworldtech.com/ they have everything you need to fix the seats.
