BBS RS 007 - Metric Wheels
Now that Summer is in full swing, I got organized for a long-awaiting project; I really want to get some pics of the car on it's original tires and wheels. Though recalled by BMW, the 007s have an interesting story.
Step 1 : Mark the valve position on the wheel center and barrel so the wheel goes back together as it was.
Step 2: Removed all the 12-point RS bolts to be cleaned and re-coated.
Step 3: Cut the old adhesive with a carpet knife abd proceeded to "split" the rims.
Next I'll clean off the old adhesive still on the lips, centers and barrels. The Lips will get stripped of the old clear-coat and get a good buffing- but not too deep as to remove the original machined surface. Barrels will go to be rounded if needed and the centers are off to get powder coated. oh and I have to file out some curb rash on two lips.

It took about :35 min a wheel to remove the bolts and about :10 min each wheel to cut the adhesive and knock them apart.tschultz wrote:Good luck--how much time have you put in so far??

Today I got some stripper on the lips but they'll need another go. The metal finish is beautiful and I can't wait to see them done.Any suggestions on how to get the rest of the old coat off without damaging the metal finish?
Dull "before" shot of old clear-coat.

Update - once the lips were stripped, I polished and had them (and the centers) powder coated. Notice I left the original machined finish on the lips versus deep mirror polish-
With new bolts from Black Forest, I got them re-assembled.
Pain in the arse but well worth it

Sharp-- great work on those wheels Aaron!
I didn't realize until Gene told me that some of those early metric wheels also had painted centers to match the car.
Always little quirks to learn.

Thanks men, the ambient light almost makes the centers look blue-ish. In direct sunlight they're true silver.
It's gonna take a while to save up the funds for some new TRX GTs so pics may take some time. I do some 211s in the works that will have the same look (stepped 2 inch lips and all).
Tom- I have seen those body colored wheels on a couple M635s. Definatley a 1980's drug dealer look IMO.

I have a set of 16 x 8. I am interested in making the back set wider. Currently the offset is 11. Seems like I would need both inner and outer barrels to get the "normal" offset of -28 (is that plus or minus on the offset?)M6smitten wrote:Lots of companies still make barrels for these BBS RS wheels. Where can I find a good company selling the barrels?
