wiper motor

Post by Noct »

Hey guys, I've been trying to pull out my wiper motor and I'm stuck on the last step... described as "moving the wiper assembly out of the way".

I don't see how to get the last part that's holding the motor in place lose. Also showed it to someone at the tool library here and he had no idea either (made me feel better about a potential greenhorn mistake :)

Huuumm :-k
You're saying that "Z" arm is not attached to the arm that
disappears under the body & held in place with a circlip?
Does the tri-angle plate rotate out of the way?
I'm guessing you used a flashlight? :-k

Can't see from the photo. Have you taken the wiper arms and pivot assembly off ?

IIRC from having done this twice about a year ago, you just need to pry the arm off the shaft.

It's ALWAYS better to ask than to force anything!!
Then, if someone knows,,,,proceed.

Yup. I just did it today. Stick two screwdrivers (err, prybars) in there, one on each side, and push upwards. It's stuck on there with 30 years worth of corrosion.

Thanks guys, I'll pick up a small pry bar before I give this another go. The toolkit is getting to be decent...

Just use 2 stout phillips screwdrivers. I said prybars because the tool manufacturers always tell you not to pry with screwdrivers

You're absolutely correct! Even two straight edge screwdrivers.
Wedge them in & rotate at the same time?

But first lube all the joints with PBblaster to maximize the flexibility when you lever them out.

If you're still struggling with this and would feel more comfortable spending some money to do it "right" than prying it off with screwdrivers, it looks like this tool may work:

Cool. That looks like a good one for the toolkit. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
