Wow, so nice and clean looking. How are you planning to finish it?
This makes me want to take my car all apart and....no, never mind. I'm just going to drive it.

Hi Song,

POR15 basecoat, POR primer, POR / Eastwoods top coat / chassis black.

If we had your weather, we would probably drive more and restore less :mrgreen:

More bits to spend my hard earned on. Got my part numbers from the ETK and then price comparisons between BMW dealer and Walloth & Nesch.

2 Rear Drop Links (33 55 1 126 932)
BMW = £52.10
W&N = £14.00

2 Rear ARB Bushes (33 55 1 129 700)
BMW = £13.20
W&N = Not Available?

2 Rear Wheel Bearings (33 41 1 134 549)
BMW = £137.76
W&N = £66.00

2 RTA Rubber Mountings (not eccentric) (33 32 9 061 946)
BMW = £105.43
W&N = £40.00

2 RTA Drop Arms (33 32 1 126 476)
BMW = £222.12
W&N = £70.00

24 Bolts for Rear Drive Shafts (07 11 9 919 620)
BMW = £72.29
W&N = Not Available post 82?

6 Backing Plates for Bolts of inside Rear Drive Shafts (33 21 1 209 543)
BMW = £20.16
W&N = Not Available post 82?

Left Rear Brake Backing Plate (34 21 1 156 769)
Right Rear Bake Backing Plate (34 21 1 156 770)
BMW = £43.68
W&N = Not Available?

2 Rear Shock Absorbers (Bilstein)
BMW = £382.00
W&N = £248.00

Various Nuts and Bolts, and cable Holders to be replaced, relating to Rear Axle Carrier and Rear Trailing Arms
BMW = £48.95
W&N = Not Available?

As you can see some bits will always have to be bought from the stealer.

Where I have the option to either buy from BMW or W&N, the price difference is quite considerable.

My only concern would be the quality of the parts sold by W&N, they say their parts are OEM quality from old stock or original manufacturers.

Some of your input/experience using Walloth and Nesch would be appreciated.

Ta Rob,

Well, if not finished this summer then will definately take you up on the invite next summer. :wink:
Car was supposed to be completed for a Europe Road Trip in September, as that is highly unlikely I had to buy an alternative vehicle for that job. :mrgreen:

I've used them for all sorts of bits over the last decade and have always been impressed, but I agree it's frustrating that they don't state the manufacturer on all of the items.

M3 for September, I'm guessing?

Well, its been a while (5 months to be precise) since I posted any updates, mainly as there was nothing to post due to:
Work sending me abroad for a little while
European Trip with the M3
Replacement for the 323i Touring - Alpina B3 needing a little bit of attention.

And many many other excuses why I have not done much work on the 6 this summer, well hopefully that will change now and will soon be back on the restoration road.

Hey Kev!

I thought you'd been quiet. Your inspiration with running an E36 as a daily continues to inspire - the wife now drives a 318is in techno violet!

Let me know if you fancy meeting up, the M drives and everything.

Hi Rob,

Yer, it sort of went a bit tits-up over the summer, I blame work!!!!!!! Well, you got to blame something :D

e36 is now sold and I have gone even more mad in the head for my daily drive - an e46 alpina B3. Well we have a diesel for the family wagon so some sanity still prevails.

Yep, it would be good to meet up and see how your m6 is doing, do you have anything in mind? Did you go to Gaydon this year?

Hi Rob,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, yet again work sent me away (I am sure it is some sort of punishment).

Yep, sounds like a plan, let me get these next few weeks out the way when I can get thing back to normal and try and arrange something.

OK, have almost finished rebuilding front jacking area on the near side sill, luckily the off side sill at the front is all fine.
If only I can say the same for the off side rear sill area - more on that later.

Here is a pic, have welded in new metal and added strengthening plates as well - still needs to be finished off (grind, blend, skim) to try and maintain the best OE look I can.

Well, what can I say ... 2017 was pretty much a sh@t year for one reason or another which basically meant all work on the 6 series had to be put on hold.
Also, the light resto work on the Alpina ended up taking presidence over the 6 series as this car would become my daily transport for the time being.

Saying that, I was able to resume work over the xmas period with some personal time off and have almost manage to complete all the work to the rear of the car and the rear suspension, etc ... pics

The rear dampers and springs etc. where actually in excellent working order as they had already been replaced with BMW OE and did not make sense to change, just needed a bit of restoration.
Regarding the repainting of the BMW-Bilstein dampers to bring them back up to scratch ... I found the perfect colour match which was Melon-Yellow (paint code: 2145 / RAL 1028).
