85 Shark by Diesel

Post by Diesel »

Hi all.

I have just bought myself a 85' 635Sci with automatic transmission.

Basically the car is good condition and doesn't require much work to do, however I like clean and well running cars so there is something to do, like:

1) Worn out shocks.

2) Worn out drivesfaht 'rubber'.

3) ABS, water temp. gauge and speedometer doesn't work.

4) Steering wheels needs to be rewrapped in new leather.

5) Leaky stearing rack.

6) Oil leaks through the engine gaskets.

7) Basic maintenance like new belts, liquids and so on.

There is also a signs of bad body-work or paint-work, which I can't tollerate as well.

Image

Image

Ok, so the first issue that was found while looking for an ABS failure problem was rusty ABS rings which goe together with drive flanges, so had no other choice but to order new flanges, which are on the way.

Brake calipers and Bilstein + HR setup on.

Stripped down the trim (body work and pintjob preparation) and tried the rims on.

I hope it will drop at least by 1/2 inch after a first month of driving.

A couple of locals started making custom rims. A set of these was their first job and I was the lucky one to aquire them :-)

Until my Shark is waiting for a bodybowrk, I got passion on BMW and....bought another big coupe by the same manufacturer ](*,)

So it's a 1990 accident and rust free 850i. Full 109k. km (or around 65k miles) history. And a true Japan import example.

Thanks to BMW gods [-o< there are still replacement panels available.

Generally speaking this is the moment when mild refurbishing job turns in to a serious restoration with bigger plans 8)

Very nice, impressive fleet and I love those Brock wheels. Nasty surprise under that fender, but at least it can be rectified and everything else about both cars looks awesome.

Keep the pics coming. Image

Wow, those replacement pieces look great, I figure I'll be needing those soon. What did they cost? Very nice looking car. And your work space looks awesome, I'm so jealous. Any chance of showing some pics as the rusty inner fenders are repaired/replaced?

Thanks!!

I will keep posting all the bodywork, so the inner fender as well.
The price is 250 euro per panel.

To be honest neither Brocks, nor Bottlecaps custom rims will remain on the Bimmers.

I decided to make a custom Throwing stars rims using the barrels and the lips of the Brock rims. So the result should be a 19x8.3 and 19x10.3 3-piece Throwing stars for E31:

Image

and 17x8.2 and 17x9.5 3-piece TRX rims for E24.

Image

Until I have an update for the sixer, here are 'news' for 8er:

The ashtray cover was missing

Image

so I found one with complete center console on Ebay:

Image

I bought the car with a E46 steering wheel which I didn't like at all.

Image

As a result I've bought an original one:

Image

Image

A rear diff had a signs of leaking. So decided to rebuild it by replacing old bearings and other minor parts. Just in case :)

Image

Image

Also rebuilt a leaky steering box.

This aftermarket radio doesn't belong here...

Image

Will be replaced by this beauty:

Image

I found a few cracks in inner plastic fenders that disturbs the peace of my sleep, so sorted new ones, plus a few worn out rubber bushings, wishbones, all filters, spark plugs, belts, lifting rubber pads and other minors.

Image

Image

Finally I ordered a H&R springs and a Bilstein B12/Eibach kit (I am going to use H&R springs in the front and Eibachs in the rear.
B12 received yesterday. H&R still on the way.

This thread freaking delivers!

Beautiful cars.

I miss my 6 every day, and the snow has only just started here in Michigan.

I would love to watch your progress on these.

The 850 is the only car I would even consider selling or trading my 6 for. And only with a manual transmission.

The wheels on the 6 look great. I'm sure the Frankenstein throwing stars will come up nice also. Although cutting up some valuable(ish) throwing stars will take some balls.

With the 850i are u putting in the same diff ratio. These cars will really benifit with a lower diff especially in 4spd auto form. The dudmd or wokke chips also help unlock the v12 from its state of slumber.

Yes I have a plan to get an ECU chip from Wokke, but never thought about changing the gears. Perhaps can anybody advice what gears should I go for and from what other BMW model? BMW 840?
Thanks.
