Ronnie, thanks for that, but we're looking for #4 which goes between the light frame and the body, not the #2 seal that goes between the lense and the frame.

I think as has already been said, quite a few sites will list the light gaskets as being available, but when you actually order they come back and say that they are not.

I have a brand new right side seal that could be used as a pattern, the left being a mirror image (I believe). I've approached a couple of companies to see if a replica could be made, a couple sound promising. Based on rough estimates, for 100 pairs I think we'd be looking at about £150 per pair, obviously the more you make the cheaper each pair becomes. Once the mould is made subsequent batches would be cheaper too, so it would not depend too much on the size of the run.

However, it's probably best to wait a little longer and see if BMW are actually going to make these after all, if nothing happens in a few months then we can investigate possible avenues and see which is likely to be best.

Ronnie, as Richard quite rightly points out, the seals remain advertised to order on many internet sites and even at BMW dealers but when placing the order the overall reply is that they are no longer available from BMW, this also applies for Wallothnesch.
I have a friend who works with rubber and plastics who is going to look into making up a test run in march as mentioned. The results will be posted.

Cheers

Sycamore BMW have now refunded my payment that was being held for the seal on backorder, having spoken with the parts manager at the dealership he said that BMW UK have told him that the seal will no longer be available and the part number has also been deleted from the system. He had no knowledge that BMW Classic are reproducing these and suggested ordering through them if what I have been told is indeed true.

Received this from BMW Classic this morning after requesting technical specifications and dimensions for the part they were not going to reproduce.
Thank you kindly for your patience. We investigated your matter carefully and regret that we have no option to give you information about the dimension of the part number 63 21 1 360 465. Gladly it will be reproduced, so that you have the opportunity to preorder the desired part at any BMW dealership of your choice.
So that looks as though they ARE going to make them.

Edit :

And a follow up after asking them to confirm as the English above is not exactly the best!
Thank you kindly for your email. Gladly we can confirm that the part numbers 63 21 1 360 465 and 63 21 1 360 466 will be reproduced. We kindly ask for your understanding , that we have no information about, when they will be available in fact.

So what do we do now? Re-order? And from a dealer? Or direct from BMW Classic themselves?

Well, based on the first reply quoted, I guess from the "dealership of your choice" - who will probably say it's NLA!

Is it possible to take that "perfect" NOS item and make a mold for pourable silicone (I don't know the density or formulation) as a trial run?

I would imagine you could take a mould from it. The main problem would be getting the thing to stay still, it's quite floppy.

Is there a multi-step process to create an ideal gasket to be used as a form for a mold. I know there are scanning processes to digitize any item as part of the molding process. We need to find someone with expertise......

Latest reply from BMW Classic :
Sorry, we have many problems with the gaskets (PN 1360465 / 466).
We get a prototype from our supplier but the parts are not good.
We have find a new producer but he needs a new tool.
Possibly we get the new parts in the spring 2018, or later.

Best regards

We are on the subject, but we can't say today when we will be available the parts again.
Maybe it will take even longer, sorry.

Please PM particulars. I’m pricing these at $40 each

I’ve done group shipment to Ron before so I know that works. Thanks

Left side is most important for me, on the M1 that’s above the exhaust and gets hotter. I think if I took out the left side rear light that the gasket would fall apart.
