Adjusting the dashboard on M6
Hi all, PO had the dash replaced on my 87 m6, and the top of the dash doesn't line up with the doorcard, and there is a clear indentation on the A pillars where you can see where the original dash sat. I've looked at the dash removal tutorial in the tech section - I'm unclear however of which of these connections can be adjusted to bring the dash board up about a cm. Anyone have experience with this?
thanks!
thanks!
Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
Are you sure it's not the A-pillar trim that may need adjustment? I've had mine off a few times to remove the header panel, and there is a fair amount of adjustment available on the pillar trim. The screws thread into slots in the body, rather than holes, so you may have an easier time adjusting the trim.

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
thanks for the reply. The reason I think it's the dash is that main line of the dash also falls below the continuous line on the door card. A pillar looks correct.
Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
I think I know what you mean, and the dash ends in my car, also with a new dash, don't match the contours of the upper edge of the door panels, either. I thought that's just the way it is, and not a defect or adjustment issue, but maybe you're, right?

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
That sure doesn't look right, the fitment is a lot better on mine..
I think the upper doorcard came with different shapes on the early VS the later models, maybe that's what's wrong with the one in the picture?

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
Is it correctly engaged at the windscreen? It there's a gap between screen and dash, then probably not!
If it is just a case of raising the dash up then that is very easy: two 10mm bolts either side, just above the speaker enclosures. You can't miss them.
I'm sure there's an excellent write up on dash replacement on here.
Good luck,
Rob

What I'd like to see are some pictures of others' cars showing the interface between the ends of the dash and the tops of the door panels.

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
A photo of my stock 635. The M6 dash should be the same. The dash and door aren't level but they should be a good flush fit.
Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
Thanks, but I'd like to see more pics of the passenger side, and maybe of an original dash. Mine is a restored dash from Just Dashes.

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
Don't get me wrong, yours looks better than mine, but I can see they were never made to be a perfect match. Mine is surely worse because of the Just Dashes restoration, and door panels that may or may not be original to that year car.

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
I too would like to see more photos as it appears the dashes are all over the shop. Mine is original and as far as I know has never been removed so I've always thought the step between the door and dash was meant to be there. Bobbo's photo shows that his line up however so maybe mine is crook? Not that it matters but you would expect them to all be the same.
By the way, the passenger side of mine is exactly the same as the driver's side in that the step is identical.
Come on chaps, cameras out.

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
Have never noticed this before to be honest, mine aren't too bad I guess, passenger side is quite neat but the driver side is off.
My car appears to have had some front end repair work by a previous owner, and I suspect this dash has been removed and reinstalled but don't know for sure.

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
Hmm, mine is clearly way off then. I always thought it was an odd way to be lined up, put it down to German eccentricity, now I know it's not how it should be.

Re: Adjusting the dashboard on M6
Not to change the subject or highjack this thread, but good catch Dean
Looking at the pix that Ellis posted, his line up much better, I guess the quality of the plastic molds and fitment really varied over the years
Yes, they were for E30, modified to fit the 6er difference in the angle, mounting, etc.Are those tweeters from another car, maybe an E30?

Here are mine....ugh as you can see there is space between the A pillar and the dash. Clearly mis aligned. i'm just curious how to raise this sucker up a bit...glad to know I'm not alone but also, my OCD and wanting my investment to be in awesome condition makes me lose my mind when I see thisdwcains wrote:So far, mine looks the worst.
