WTB: Rear Strut Brace

Post by Masked Man »

Hey folks!

I know I've seen this item, but was it a custom unit short run or NLA item? It (obviously) went between the rear shock towers and -I believe- attached to the trunk floor? I have checked several online outlets and have come up empty. Since Grace is presently as accessible as an E24 is gonna get, I reckon now is the time. I figure I'll also drop new shocks in the rear. All aid appreciated.

There was one for E28's known as a tow package brace, but now very difficult to find... I have a Mason engineering rear brace and it tucks up under the trunk carpeting which I like...

Thanks guys!

I've found their website. Do you both feel like the unit improves rear-end stiffness commensurate with the investment?

Actually I don't know that it does help all that much. I had one in my e28 (but took it out later) and one in the E24 only because I use it at the track. The rear is pretty stiff with the rear bulkhead so I probably wouldn't spend for it on a street car. The front one helps if you get non hinged (like Mason) since the front doesn't have a lot of cross bracing from the factory...

Many thanks folks!

Thank you, DV, Bert & Tschultz. Your point regarding need, is a good one, Tschultz, I think I'll pass on the rear for the moment and just go with a rigid front unit. Oh Bert? Mason Engineering is in Simi Valley here in SoCal. And DV, while the Weicher product looks to be good quality? I believe I'll go with one I can drive to and pick up.

Again, my thanks for your valuable insights

Well, the least you can do is to get the wonderful pictures you used to come up with every Friday, back in the "saloon"

Bert?

You're trying to get me in trouble. You KNOW the admins put an end to all that. And I'm fine with that.

Didn't I see some sort of sub frame assembly in the rear of Ron's car (while at Legends) that also mounts his battery? For those of us without M cars, this would provide an added weight distribution bonus?

Everything I'm learning points towards no need for a rear strut brace especially since I'm not planning on tracking Grace, AND that a rigid front strut bar is superior to one with swivel points. And of the links posted to this thread so far, only Mason Engineering is rigid.

Hey Phillip.

I got front and rear braces on my e24.

Best thing I ever done for them. The rear one balanced out the car and gives a neutral cornering attitude rather than under steer.

It's kind of like same result as stiffening up the rear anti-roll bar.
