Those do look great.

Do you think that 225/55/16 tires would work? The 55 aspect ratio adds 12.75 mm or 0.44 inches to the sidewall.

Thanks,

I don't think you would have any clearance issues but I'd expect the speedometer to read ~3.2% slower per the calculation here: https://tiresize.com/comparison/

I always have liked BBS Style 5's. Look great, fit great, not too hard to get, not too expensive, 'stock' looking enough to not be distracting, I get lots of complements on them from people who see my car.

Wow, thanks for that. So that's what my car would look like if I ever had to put the spare wheel on it =D>

It doesn't look bad I gotta give it that. I wouldn't object to running these wheels at all if only they weren't metric sizes making for impossible to find tyres. That's why I'm not bothered at having a pristine example of this wheel with a brand new unroaded TRX tyre on it as my spare. I even bought the centre cap for it to store in the boot as well just in case I ever need to use it in anger as the spare wheel.

Not impossible to get the Metric tires, just very, very pricy. Although it'll be even more so in Australia, what with shipping and import duty.

U.S. prices today:

220/55VR390: $331 each
240/55VR390: $398 each

and those with the 415 diameter wheels, hold on to you beer and have a seat....

240/45VR415: $410 each
240/55VR415: $421 each

They do list some "new old stock, for display only, not for road use" 240/45VR415s for $273 each, but why would you buy that?

But I may have local contact who can get me cheaper ones from a GM dealership.

Hello all

Adding in a post just to show what else is out there. Here’s what my car looks like right now as purchased. These are 17x8 et20? Moda by BBS on continental conti tires 235/45/17. Stock suspension.

I just bought a set of BBS style 42 which will be put on next week as I am not not feeling these current wheels too much.

The car came with a mint set of the OG metrics but the tire choices aren’t great so I’m not going to use them. I will come back and post a pic of the car once I get the new wheels on.

OK, I’m back. Managed to get the new wheels on so I’m adding to this post again.

These are 17x8 et20 BBS Style 42 from a 5 series. The centers were taken out and powder coated anthracite grey, and the outer barrels were machine polished. Sitting on the same tires as above, continental contis.

I think it looks a million times better now, but now I’m thinking.... it needs a mild drop to close some of the wheel gap. :D

Yes, I'm sure.

Front = 17x8.5 et12 ...KBA41262 ... 3611638
Rear = 17x10 et28 .... KBA41263 .... 3611639

Alpina wheels .... made by Ronal.

How sure are you, exactly?
Front = 17x8.5 et12 ...KBA41262 ... 3611638
Rear = 17x10 et28 .... KBA41263 .... 3611639

Alpina wheels .... made by Ronal.
I'm pretty sure Rear = 17x10 et28 .... KBA41263 .... 3611639 will rub the shock absorber on the inside of the rear of a stock E24. The 10"ers are for E31 B12 only and the part number is 3611640 too as per this page of their catalogue:
Image

The generally accepted consensus is the widest you can go on the rear of an E24 without using spacers to push the tyres out beyond the arches and with conventional offsets in the et12-et24 range is 9.5". Regardless, I can't really see why anyone would want 10" wheels anyway. The same tyre is used on both the 9.5" + 10" version, so it really makes no difference, just with the 10" wheel the look is slightly more stretched and there is more chance of wheel kerb damage as a result.

See my post on March 15th 2015 (1st page of this thread) That is my M635 with the setup I suggested. Ran the setup for 2 years (no spacers)
.... never rubbed at all.

Looked into it, local shop quoted $2100 for new Michelin mounted and balanced tires in TO and 2 weeks shipping. If was to buy the "not for road use" would be show purposes only.

Simple angluar five spoke AZEV wheels outside Casino Royale. 16x7.5 which is close to the original TRX rims fitted. Hubcentric rings and 20mm offset means they are not quite perfect...

These may not be the most fancy but all magnesium and very light. Very valuable, too. There is a set for sale on CL in Los Angeles right now for $1800. I would love to buy them for our Lucky Dog/Lemons car, but there are too valuable to put on a $500 race car...

Edit: I contacted the seller about these Jongbloed wheels. They are staggered. He thinks they are 16x8.5 and 16x9.5. Far more likely, I think, that they are 8" and 9" wide.

I still have a burning feeling... that only a good dose of TRX can heal! I am getting my TRX's bead blasted and painted up for summertime car shows. I still don't know why I really enjoy the look of the OEM TRX, maybe after I get them on and realize there are better looking OE rims. Until then I am stuck on this feels.
