another 85 M635Csi project
Originally all I wanted the car for was the Motor/trans...When I finally saw it, the car was too solid to part up...New project.

Oh! it is a rare M635csi without the arches extension and the thin TRX wheels (they look great)
Re: another 85 M635Csi project
Yup, it has one. Thanks for the tipbrickwhite wrote: ↑Fri Mar 09, 2018 3:54 pm Did you mean S38?

Round one complete...All new suspension bushings, bilsteins and staggered style 32's and tires...180 miles on it and so far so good. I was hoping the M series ride would be a bit more to the firm side but we'll see.

Re: another 85 M635Csi project
The steering vagueness is prob caused my multiple factors. Firstly the steering re-enforcement bracket (weld in) should be done, then all bushes and links in the front end as they are much easier than doing the rear. Some extra negative camber on the front (strut tops) will help turn in and also some front and rear strut top braces will help keep the alignment more stable
Wheel alignment will obviously needed but it’s abit pointless if the bushes and links are shot.

Re: another 85 M635Csi project
Hi Gaz, I should have given more detail on the steering...before the new tires and wheels were added, I replaced all the worn bushings (front/rear) and added the mwrench reinforcement. No sign of trouble with the mount but the reinforcement seemed like cheap insurance given the wider and more modern rubber and realigned
I was a bit concerned that the offset of the style 32's had some unforeseen impact but I had all the fluids flushed and refilled today..Surprisingly big difference. That also stopped the rattle when the car is on a grade. I'll drive it a bit and see.
The shifting I may have to live with. I had a local wrench that's very familiar with these cars check it. He seemed to think it was pretty normal.
Now to find an interior guy that can help me with the suncracked dash...I found a clean set of speaker pods for the rear...With the seats and dash done, I'll be a happy camper..At least for a while

If all the bushes are done definetly consider the front and rear strut tower braces.
If u can get a way of adding some front -ve camber do it.

Re: another 85 M635Csi project
TY Gaz....I made 80/90 freeway miles today. The car was solid and a pleasure to drive
Rodger that on the sway bars. I'd like to find an aluminum one, solid that doesn't bolt together at the towers.
Shifting, it's no tremac but with a light touch and the fresh fluids, it's bearable
On the camber...I looked at camber plates when doing the front suspension but it seemed like they added a bit of hight to the car.
Am I looking at that the wrong way?

Re: another 85 M635Csi project
The bolt together ones are fine. I got mine at Schmiedmann for memory and yes in aluminium.
I done all the bushes camber steering etc etc and once I put the bars on it was the most massive difference. I guess it makes all the other items work properly as there prob is lots of flex in the towers. Done the tower bars on the e34 and there was bugger all difference. Yet to do on the 2002 but planned
I’m pretty sure Ireland engineering (or a similar amarican vendor) do a fixed and adjustable plate that doesn’t effect the ride height. U can only get another degree or so due to the stock spring being a large dia

Not really sure
I see this h/l in a German forum
https://forum.6ercoupe.de/index.php/index.php?id=118836BMW Herstellernachweis mit Datenblatt / Fzg. ABE Nr. (BMW-E24-Forum)
google translate turns it to this;

Re: another 85 M635Csi project
Suspension is getting there. added heavier M5 front sway bar and reinforced it's mount points. Following your lead, I found a Dinan strut brace but the camber plates I'm still looking for. Irelands mount under the body and lift the car a bit but they do work with the strut brace....Also bought a set of H&K springs that should net me around a half-inch all around drop over the current suspension. I see mention of offset strut bearings but haven't been able to source them yet. Adjustable would be good as what I think I'd like is to add -.5 of camber to the front.GazM3 wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 8:01 pm The bolt together ones are fine. So eloquently stated Baders.
The best I can do is match the engine stand and say that I have an engine block with the same casting insignia.

The Storm-Vulcan Block Master belongs to a friend of mine.
There are some interesting old machine tools tucked away in the hills behind Paso Robles and some of us crotchety old guys that keep them running.
