WTB M90 Thermostat Housing Cover

Post by Hefeweizen »

Looking for a thermostat housing cover (with a thermostat housing if you don't want to seperate). It is for a M90 engine (yes) and I do not have a part number. The one for the M30 engine (no) fits but the angle is off and the hose bulges.

Does it cross reference to any e12's? Hoping you can find it from a different engine.

Early M90 is Ljet injection and therefore will use a housing from any pre 81 M30 motor.

Thanks,

I sure hope so too! Right now, for the time being I blocked the bleeder screw mechanism off meaning I plugged the hole. Not really an ideal situation. You can see on the picture that the angle on the E24 cover is different.

bpoliakoff is exactly correct. I have a M90 with a December 1981 build date ((Motronic) and it’s thermostat housing looks like the one you don’t want (I attempted to add a photo). The L-Jet 633s here all match what you are after.

What does your radiator and hose look like? The radiator I have in does not accommodate the the regular E24 hose. Changing out the radiator opens up another can of worms ](*,)

I do have the car apart right now. The hose number looks like it is 3404 - 06. Seems that BMW relocated the hose fitting to clear the Motronic distributer. The radiators look identical.

The top hose on the December 1981 m90 Motronic is the same as the 1980 L-Jet. See picture with loose 81 hose sitting on top of 1980 installed.

Did research online and did not find anything with that number for the hose. I think that would be the most ideal situation to get a hose like that which would fit. I have a few housings for the M30B34 so that is not a problem.

Get the part number from real oem such as a 1980 M535i which used the same engine. Or as others have suggested, an E12 633 ](*,)

Tom, you never fail to amuse me by thinking all the answers are at real oem. Sometimes it is not that easy. Bottom line is that I am looking for a thermostat cover (used). I appreciate the suggestions to buy a new one and I even entertain the thought of getting a hose, really.

It seems to be there when I looked. :-k
BMW Part #: 11531714861
Hose: 11531266462

Shows on E3, E12, E24, E28---Specifically different from e28 based housing/cover. Of course you must look to see which specific models it came on, and it shows early M30 cars(as others suggested, LJet model) up to production 9/80.

Available new here: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw ... 531714861/

EDIT: I see you are looking for used. A bit pricey new but the Ljet cars are rare these days-- even for spare parts!
