UCA Bushes - re-educate me, please!

Post by wattsmonkey »

Am I right in thinking that the bushes in this photo are those found on the E32 and E31?

The picture is from the Walloth Nesch site.

I've got standard Lemforder bushes in the M and I want to firm things up a bit now that I've returned to the original 19mm arb.

Other question: am I mistaken in thinking that E32/31 bushes had to be trimmed down to fit the E24?

Thanks,

Rob

If the bushes shown in the photo are E31 then I believe they do need to be turned down.

I went through all this year replacing my poly bushes which had permanently deformed, in the end installed:
  • Lower Control Arms: (pair) Lemforder Aluminium - 31-12-1-139-987-M69 and 31-12-1-139-988-M69
Upper Control Arms: (pair) Lemforder 1-12-1-132-353-M69 and 1-12-1-132-354-M69
Upper Control Arm Bushings.(4) Meyle HD with green inserts 31-12-9-058-819. (2 spare)
Went with Lemforder over Meyle as read their ball joints regrded as more reliable
The aluminium lower arms are a direct fit upgrade
Lemforder UCA's come with bushes. Need to press these out and press in the Meyle HD's. The part # listed above did not need trimming to fit my mounts.

it is a long time ago now but I fitted some aftermarket E34/E32 UCA bushes (from ECP, as per the photo) and they needed to be shortened. They also have the centre bush offset vs the geometric centre, but by a slightly different amount vs E24 bushes. You may need to adjust the toe settings slightly to avoid tyre wear, if any different bushing is fitted.

I have fitted a pair of the Meyle UCA with the green HD Bushes already installed. They are called Meyle Hd reinforced.
Available from Schmiedman

Have had no issues with them
