Tachometer Gears UK

Post by TomMan7531 »

Hi all,

I'm in need of some tachometer gears ideally in the UK, BMW cant supply the part not without buying a whole new gauge for 350quid!!!!

Mine look OK but need the small one in the picture which is shot, I counted 13 teeth but probably best to buy a whole new set if possible

Thanks.

Are these to be be found in BMW rev counters of the period? I have a few 6 Series display units that I probably won't ever make use of so might be prepared to let you have one of them to see if you can find/extract the part you need.

Thanks, Just to be clear these come out of the speedometer, not the rev counter which does have different cogs. If you have a spare speedometer I can take it apart and salvage the gears. Let me know whats the cost and I will be in touch. Cheers.

Potentially I can do that. What year/model is your car? Or maybe they are all the same over the years?

I found one of my spare clock assemblies (stamped as 1987 manufactured) and removed the speedo unit. I strongly suspect the cog you are after is the small one pictured here, but this one is definitely only 12 teeth!

Please advise further.

Yeah thats the one, i can buy a set to come from Turkey for 20quid including postage which I would say is a bit steep for 3 plastic gears but thats bang on!

Feel free to PM me and we can work out shipping and such.

At £20 it sounds very reasonable tbh. If I let you have the cog from my spare I'd effectively be left with a pretty useless set of clocks.

Are you positive that 12 teeth is correct?

Well any online all say 12 teeth so my counting skills need work.

But yeah depends on what you want, I don't need the clock so the gears alone would be ideal but just depends if you are happy to separate them, if not Ill buy the ones on eBay.

I'm sure they'll ship internationally. $7. for a 12 tooth gear, a entire set on sale for $15. Not sure if these gears are different for KM or Miles in the US.

I think I paid over £100 for the entire clocks unit, and even without that small cog it really won't be worth anything after. So I hope you can source something for reasonable money.

Hi, if you're willing to break your clocks and it's the late one, could I get the service indicator light bar? For some reason my light bar is missing and I haven't been able to find one. If you'd be willing to help out I'd appreciate it. :)

Interestingly, it looks to me like the small gear is offered here has 13 teeth (ie as per the originally count suggested by the OP), whereas the one from by my late model set is definitely only 12 teeth.

The 12 tooth gear is listed in "Individual Gears" in the gear product section.
