Thanks Mamod, didn't realise Easter... scratch that date then.

How about the following weekend, Sat 7 April?

New car is in to replace the Renault RS265 that was unfortunately bent on the M1 to Newcastle.

Mechanic is really pushing the engine builder. Hopefully,...................................... hopefully the bare engine is together this week with ancillaries going on next week.

So May is now looking strong for a drive even if I need to use the new car rather than the 6'er. Let me know what dates we should pencil in..................... very lightly. The M140i is a rocket, an absolute rocket.

HI Josh,

Early May better for me as I have a work trip to Munich in the second half (All three important car museums too!).

The question was "does the car have A/C". Now it is getting to "does the car have heating"?

Shall we pencil May 12 into the Calendar now? I need to check with Rosie but otherwise. Sounds like a decent enough date.

Pardon the observation, but this thread that was started in November of last year for a January 2018 get-together has now moved all the way to mid-May? I'm wondering if it will happen before NEXT January rolls around. I hope you guys get it done soon. Turning on to winter down there, isn't it?

Hi Toby - I can't do Sun 13 May unfortunately. How late in May can you stretch before you head off?

Ken - your observation is sound. We've been trying to lock in a date with Josh's new motor since July 2014. Plenty more winters to come & go before we give up hope. These threads are just keepin the dream alive.

Yep, getting that engine right has been a saga for shore. Once we start back up hopefully we can get 2 to 4 drives in a year.

My 633's new engine is close. The bare engine is back together and ancillaries are going on as we speak. It will not be ready for a May drive but as soon as it is, i'll be driving no matter what so will invite all along.

I'm still good for a late May drive in my M140i. It's a weapon and rockets along. I need to meet Pip Barker to pick up my E3 2 door race engine May 19 so May 26 is the only free Saturday for me.

I'm putting on the Hello Koalas Cars & Coffee in Port Macquarie on June 10 (for my client Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail. It's part of the Hello Koalas Festival hellokoalas.com/festival). I would love to have a school of sharks there to kick off event. Let me know what you think! Especially the mid-north coast/newcastle crew...) . check out hellokoalas.com/festival - would have put an image up but it says boards quota has been reached?

I'm getting close with the S38B38.

It's back together now and being wired with the Megasquirt PRO III on Monday.

Ready for a drive in my M140i late May or June.

As much s I'd love too, people have let me down big time on my 6'er. Engine not dyno'd and tuned. It's built but simply not tuned. Idles okay. I'm placing it back in the car un-tuned and will rest it up a while. Honestly not having to call the engine builder 3 times a week and listen to excuses (for 3 fricken years) has been very relaxing.

I'll have time in January and would love to catch up for a feed. We did Church Point a few years ago. Mayhaps a brunch early next year is the go.

Shipper - 3 years-that's no good. Can you not find someone else (reliable) to tune.

Mamod. That's the 12 hour yeah? Am going to do that meet one year soon. Have watched it the last few years and is a truely international event. Love the Bentleys beating up some of the exotics over the top of the mountain.

On a different note - anyone over there going to Lowndsies last waltz at Newcastle?

I'd love to find someone who knows their way around a Megasquirt PRO III. Engine build finished and has had an idle tune on the dyno. Cost me $1.5k to wire the engine with the Megasquirt loom and the Megasquirt is a similar cost. Now the dyno guy has told the engine builder he does not like Megasquirt and will only tune the engine with a 'Link' or Haltech. So new loom, new ECU. At another $5k I've had enough for a while. The engine will go back into the car and I'll sit for 4 to 6 months and then work out how to finish it.

The E3 is finished and in the garage. Runs a Pip Barker built 347hp 3.6litre M30 so once you hit 3500 rpm and above it rockets to the 7200rpm redline. I'll do some track work with this while I recharge and work out how to finish my 6'er. May 2014 the 6'er engine swap started. My 6th calendar year on this B38 engine swap is just 8 weeks away. It has drained me to a point I'm well and truly over it.

Hey Shipper sad to hear that. However, Megasquirt has a fantastic user knowledge base and forums. If it were me I would take the car home and work on it yourself, using your butt dyno. You obviously have it hooked up and running so the rest is the fun bit, programming. No way I would be changing systems due to a mechanics demands.

I might email Megasquirt in the new year and get their recommendations on the best forums to join. Don't want to even look at it for a few months though. Chasing this for nearly 6 years and getting nowhere fast has left me way way too drained. Thanks for the support though.

Hi Mamod

I'm up for a drive sometime, dunno when though sorry. Next few weeks & up to Christmas are looking busy so don't know when to suggest something, but I'll keep thinking on it. Did you have anywhere south coast-wise in mind?
When do you get your a/c done? It's a great thing in these cars when you finally get the bloody a/c working!!

Hey Josh - my sympathies to you buddy, you've had a hard time with that damn motor install. Frustrating no-end, and its a shame when you've got such a cool-looking classic sports car stuck in the damn garage collecting dust and costing money. Hold on to it if you can mate and something will work out in time.

Thanks Elis. I'll give it a break for 6 months or so and then when re-charged, look at getting her running. Engine should be back in the car in a few weeks and although it has an idle tune and a decent race enduro build, should not be counted as a runner. It will need a proper dyno tune and that will take a bit of time as they do power tunes, low rpm tunes and cold start tunes. So a bit of work. Worst part was that a-hole in Melbourne stealing my 5 speed dogleg. Some mechanic. To say the industry if f'ed up completely is an understatement. The one shinning light has been my Sydney Mechanic Elie. The engine builder seems to know is stuff when it comes to building an engine but 3 years is way too long. This started in May 2014 (when the Melbourne mechanic picked the car up and took it south) and it will move into its 6th calendar year in 6 weeks.

I'll come for the drive but if it is say mid Jan 2019, it will be in my M140i. Maybe Elis we can swap cars. You drive the 'M' and I'll drive your 6'er. That would be the first 6'er I've driven in 6 years. Scary really.

Sounds like everyone is pretty busy. I reckon Bathurst 12hr at end of January could be a good time. A lot of the QLD crew come down apparently via the BMWCLubQLD.
