Old Passport radar detector - still usable?
Gents, amidst the biggest move cleanup in history, I uncovered an old Passport radar detector, still in it's original packaging, complete with all accessories
Is this still usable, or have technologies employed by the men in blue changed that much that they now use different frequencies, bands, etc.
Lemme know what you guys think, may pass it on

What's the model number, Bobbo? We can look up what band{s} it covered. Most speed guns are microwave or laser jobbies these days.

Re: Old Passport radar detector - still usable?
Looks to be a Vintage 2700 model, 1980’s Classic!
I’ve a couple of V1 units and use them daily. Valentine also releases software updates sorta regularly.
The New Passport & Escort models both receive good reviews as well.
I’d test it just for the hell of it..
Just saying.

Escort has always had a trade-in program. You should be able to order a new and improved model and get a $40-$120 trade-in value.

I purchased a new Escort several years ago and tried to take advantage of the trade-in but couldn't find my old detector. I found it a year later deep in some box in my garage. . I use it for all longer trips and it's saved me a couple of times.

I wouldn't trust it to save you a ticket, but it would look great in your car at a car show. Period correct. Don't trade it in.

Well, all good points, think it belongs in an auto museum
I could put it in the green shark at Legends, but since the cars are typically left open, some nutjob might steal it
Thanks for the feedback gents

How many ya want from my stash>> Only way to really go, if you still want to play this game, is with a jammer. You have to google radar jammer, but there is a guy around still making them. They would tie into your radar detector and when the detector picked up a signal the jammer would fire off. The jammer would be hidden in an empty fog light housing under/on your bumper. I used to have one tied to my Escort and they work, but better off either driving sanely or plain insanely where they can't catch you. However the jammer is a goof. You can get behind a cop or see a cop approaching and manually arm a jammer and set the cops radar off and watch him go nuts. It's worth having one just to play this game. At least it used to be able to do this....wayback in the day.

I asked a good friend of mine, do radar detectors actually work? Said the CHP calibrates their guns regularly and I have never seen any beat it in court.

That doesn't tell how many WITH a detector were warned and adjusted fast enough to beat getting a ticket.Tommys 89 635 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 8:59 pm I asked a good friend of mine, do radar detectors actually work? Re: Old Passport radar detector - still usable?
Radar detector has nothing to do with gun calibration. All it does it lets you know that there is a gun in operation around you. If the gun in operation happens to be the one trained on you it is of no help. The detector is simply a warning system. A jammer is the only safe gaurd and is illegal in many staes. So, just behaveTommys 89 635 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 8:59 pm I asked a good friend of mine, do radar detectors actually work? Re: Old Passport radar detector - still usable?
Behave?!?
Now what fun is that
Still haven't tried it yet, but will probably give it a whirl heading down to Legends this coming Friday
What I can do is compare with Pat (ONEBADM) who has a much later model Valentine unit, and see if we detect the same signals, if any
Bert, think I'll pass on the jammer, but might use the Passport if it still works, on trips like heading down to SoCal, when we're on the road for a long haul
Report back next week

Re: Old Passport radar detector - still usable?
Bobbo, the kicker is whether or not it will pick up the signals from the modern type of units the police are using. So don't be dependent on it.
