Part # to stop leakage under driver's carpet?

Post by GripGreg »

I don't know where it comes from but, rain water ends up under the driver's carpet. It seems to be a slow leak? Would it be the door rubber or from the windsheild grille? I know I need the heater valve. It's better to email me at [email protected] because I find it hard to come here for some reason. HELP!!

Thanx in advance,,,,Greg

Greg, one possibility for water to enter is through the ABS wires, located near the fire wall. Our cars should have a rain/water defector mounted on the underside of the hood. People have been creative and cover the area with an aluminum baking pan.

Thanx for the quick response! And, I don't have one on Buster so, I'll start there. I'm guessing that when someone installs the tin plate it's bottom side up?

Hi Greg,

Those water deflectors are very rare. I’ve only ever had one out of 20+ E24s I’ve owned over the years. IMO, the reason for your leak is the hole through the firewall which takes the main wiring harness. The sealant often dries out and allows water through. Re-seal it and it should fix your problem. Of course, a water deflector would help as well!

Cool find and detail! Would anyone happen to have a part number to this item? I have no problem doing a DIY for myself but I wouldnt mind trying to find an original part.

I wasn't able to find a part number and there's no part number on the part.
Check with the following people, both are great to deal with:

Elias Gery 760-613-3076
Rafael Bulaong [email protected]

I got one from Rafael serval years ago.

Reading this made me go out in my garage and check to see if mine has the deflector - and it does :-)

As can also be seen from the pic, the tabs that hold the bonnet grilles in place are extremely prone to breaking!
