New member, looking for info on car to purchase

Post by robertodonnell »

Hello everyone,

I am new to the Big Coupe group, so wanted to use this opportunity to introduce myself. I am from Newcastle in Australia. I have had quite a few BMWs over the years, but none of them an E24. I was hoping some members would be able to help me decode the VIN of a car I am looking at, I can't seem to get much more than basic info like colour, production date and the like off the web. VIN is WBAEC820X08186783.

This car is an import to Australia, not locally delivered, and I was hoping to find out the delivery market, options, and whether this is a catalyst car or non cat.

Cheers,

Robert

I nearly had a heart attack there! I own 8186873!

You have a UK car. I tried several decoders which used to be reliable and showed option codes, but none seem to work any more :(

Hi Pod,

Is your car a non cat version, or does it have an O2 sensor and cat?

Rob.

Hi Rob,

My car does not have those and as far as I am aware, no UK-supplied cars did. Hope this helps.

Paul.

Hi Robert welcome. Good to see another Aussie here

Some times the VIN decoders have issues with the early cars decoding the options.

If you send an email to [email protected] and give them your VIN they will give you as much information as they have on file record about the car

Be aware that they may not have details recorded about what options a car came with if it was produced before 1982. If this is the case the best you will do is production date, colour, transmission, and maybe the dealer it was first sold to

If you are on Facebook most of the Aussie E24 owners are on here https://www.facebook.com/groups/AussieSharksE24/ very helpful for someone starting out in E24 ownership. Come and introduce youself.

I would also get in contact with Addam Smith from Bavarian Classics and Restorations and let him know what you are looking for he is an absolute guru on all things classic BMW especially the E24 https://www.facebook.com/Bavarian-Class ... 796510086/ Mob: 0437551247
