Did a World bumper conversion. Have my 86 air dam for sale.
On my car for the 32 years I've owned it. Painted twice, never repaired.
The paint cracks showing in the photos are from flexing when loaded on the flatbed,
I blew the head gasket @ WGI.
Complete with fogs, brackets and temp sensor probe.
Asking for $750.00 shipped in the US.

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
Happy to show you, love the Bronzitbeige color.
I know most like red & black, but I think the
detail of the body shape shows better in a lighter color.
Good luck with the swap.

Hi, I’m working on restoring my 87 M6 (that I’ve owned for over 20 years) and I’m looking to upgrade to world bumpers. Can you provide some guidance as to what exactly I need and how/where I should source parts? Btw Your car looks great! Thanks in advance

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
Thanks for the compliments Dragan.
The best I will suggest is to buy a complete swap from a part out.
It's serious money to buy new except the spoiler (Air Dam), because you won't find one
I've been looking for about 5 years and finally had to buy new.
I used the pre 6/87 air dam but I had to fabricate brackets for the edges
and it just didn't work right. As I've stated before--Taylor was able to get his to look great
even when I looked at his I could not duplicate. So I bought the air dam stuff new.
BMW Morristown NJ is where I get all my parts (Internet sale) Mike is the specialist.
Joe is taking over during Covid 19.
The only fabricating I remember is drilling an extra hole in the quarters for the side covers.
IIRC most was plug and play. Also the black decals for the side covers I used black electrical tape, the decals were shit.
And painting of course.

You'll need to source these for front #'s1,2,3,5,9,11,12 and the hardware.

For the rears #'s 1-2-6-11-13-14. FYI, #11 just pulls off held on with spring clips. I have #2 if you want for a good price if you can't get it.
#11 looks the same but different material that's better made.

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
I did the back side completely now and was able to reuse the original rear bumper and the orginal rear valance, it matches the world bumper side trim covers perfectly.
I only changed the 2 side trim covers, the top cover and the rubber strip.
Still looking for world bumper shocks, for the time being drilled a hole in the left and right shock and drilled an extra hole in the bracket of the middle shock, it gave me just enough space the move it 1,5 inch.
I have used black gloss spray paint instead of decals for the side trim cover strips.

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
Hi,
If anyone is interested, I have the complete set to convert to World Bumpers. Bumpers. all plastic pieces, all the shocks and reflectors. The only thing I don't have is the front lower valance which I was going to adapt my 1986 one. I ended up doing a complete Euro bumper conversion so no longer need them.
Thanks,
Ron in San Clemente Ca

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
As a matter of fact I did use the US rear valance but I had to
fabricate were it bolts to the World Bumper and rubber inserts.
That's why I still have the World Bumper lower valance.
ssharkk how much are you asking for the the set?

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
Thank you so much for taking the time to post such an in depth reply.. as a matter of fact it’s so in depth that it’s kind of overwhelming lol.. it’s a lot to take in especially since I’m unfamiliar with the process as to what exactly needs to be changed and what can get reused. Are the actual chrome bumpers reused from 87 to 88? Or does everything down to the bumper shocks need to be replaced?
Someone posted on this thread that they have a complete world setup, I sent him a pm and will see if it works out. I just want to make sure I have everything that I need to do the job correctly.
Thanks again for your help

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
The only part you can use from a US bumper is the rear valance with modifications,
the bumper bracket and black rubber insert holes don't align.
Some collapse the shocks and move the bumper in, but that's like buying a fake Rolex to me.
I believe the change date is 6/87.

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
Bob, during the conversion of the rear, I noticed that the last bit of the rear bumper trim panels do not fit properly (under the rear light). The first part is neatly in line with the body but on the last part, the body curves away from the trim panel, creating a gap.
Have you noticed this too? If so, how did you solve it?

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
Mine fit the same as the white car.
Look @ this photo from top post.
Using the 86 bumper with the pushed in shocks causes the longer turned
edges of the bumper to push out the cover on the end.
Look at the curved end of the bumpers between yours and the white
car and you'll see there's a difference in the turn radius.
I think that's causing your issue.
If you cut off the edge of the rubber that wraps inside the cover you could possibly
solve the problem, although the world bumper looks to turn in sooner than the US.

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
Thanks for your comment!
The strange thing is that the side trims are already fitted like that (with the gap) without the bumper mounted. It is not the bumper that pushes them out. The bumper fits very smoothly actually, like it should.
I can correct the bumper trims by mounting them under tension with the one screw that is under the top cover trim. The disadvantage is that the ends that fall over the trim will rise slightly as the plastic is under tension.
Do you not recognize this?
My car is also a US spec, build in 1986, would assume it is similar to your car.
Thanks,
Paul

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
You said "was able to reuse the original rear bumper". The bumpers are not the same.
The world bumper has a large relief on the inside where it wraps around into the cover.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=51_0700
The US bumper does not.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=51_0677
Another thing is that the world bumper depth is less than the US, that's probably making the cover push out.

Re: E24_F/S 86 Air Dam
Hi, is the air dam still for sale?
I have a 1982 633csi and believe this is a direct bolt on. I am new here and a new E24 owner, my apologies if I have this incorrect.
If it is still available and is compatible with my car I am very interested in purchasing it.
Thanks,
Bharat
