WTB Stahl headers for 85 635csi

Post by alpine23 »

I am looking for Stahl headers for a 1985 635csi. I was able to find a pair of them, but unfortunately they are for the early E24 and do not fit.

I contacted ACP Headers, who are manufacturing the old Stahl headers, and they say they do not offer 85-89 635 headers as well. However I'm not sure if that means they can't, or won't. Waiting to hear back.

Also if anyone is interested in the early headers, PM me. I bought them anyway even though they don't fit. Newly ceramic coated in black.

Update: No luck from ACP, as they do not have the design for these headers. I also tried Korman, but they do not have any either.

From ACP - in case anyone else has my question in the future:
The Stahl BMW model range was narrowed when the company was sold. We now only have the Stahl designs for the following… 2002 (street and various race designs), a 320 Race design, 325/E30 and one that fits the E9 ’69-76 (which does fit the 630CSI but only 1977). If I recall Stahl never had an offering for the ’85-9 635CSI. I will dig up the application list provided by Stahl and confirm that.

Ireland Engineering maybe [-o<

No experience with them and have heard mixed reviews, but with slim pickens these days :-?

I actually have Stahl long tube headers on my 6er and were a PITA to deal with, both in completing the exhaust, and later, CA smog regulations :(

Think I'll keep them now that I have these issues sorted =D>

GRNSHRK, thanks. I did end up going with these headers from IE for the immediate needs, however I heard that Stahl was the best so I wanted to try and track them down eventually. The engine is getting a complete overhaul, with B35 head, new pistons, port & polish, and everything that goes along with that. Now that it appears that the Stahl headers may be unobtainium for my year of 635, I might go ahead and order the supersprint although it does take a long time.

I have a set. I've had them a for a while, but haven't installed them yet. PM me if you want pictures of them to see if they are what you are looking for. Not 100% sure that I want to sell them, but I might.

I had IE headers installed. Took a little doing to clear frame
but worked out pretty good. With the rest of the IE system
the sound is not overwhelming and no droning. Yep, it clears
even under full acceleration. No touching at all.

I did a Hartge B35 head and intake with the 294 cam and PE pistons.
CR from 8:1 to 10:1, and stand alone Haltech. I love it

You might consider SuperSprint. I put on a set.
Quality and Fit are good on my 88 635csi.

Thanks for the pic, those do look nice. I did consider them actually - in fact I will be using their exhaust, so it would be cool to have the entire system. However, the headers are made to order and it would take several months so we decided to go with Ireland since everything else was ready to go. Perhaps in the future I'll get the urge to swap if I'm unhappy with the IE, or just want to change.

Contact / SuperSprint Directly - they build the headers in batches. They try and keep 1-2 sets in inventory. I placed my order though Turner when they are on Black Friday Sale. Then pay an additional $125 to have them air shipped via FedEx - you should have them in 2 weeks. That how I had my headers and x pipe shipped. Works great !
