Steering wheel refurbishment

Post by Jlc »

My steering wheel is in great shape other than small surface cracks on top. Has anyone sanded them down and redyed the leather? Or is there a better solution than a complete redo of the leather?

My original steering wheel had a protective leather cover that was ok, but wearing out. I found a great overwrap to replace it with. It has tri-color stitching, and I was able to order it in a custom width to perfectly fit my existing steering wheel. I can't find the post I made, but the cover was ordered from a UK supplier off of ebay.

I used Redline covers before with pretty good results.

recovered this on on my old e23 about 3 years ago.

If you get the coupon (check their facebook page) I think the kit was around $75 shipped. And if you are a pretty good DIY guy it's not a hard job just a little time consuming.

This guy used to do them too... [email protected] https://www.stitchedwheels.com/

Wow, that looks good! :D
My steering wheel needs some love too.
Asked a local company to rework it, price € 400,-
The cover you have is € 100,- on Amazon.
Your photo convinced me to buy the cover. =D>

I used Chris Scow at Leather Wheels in Texas to recover my OEM steering Wheel and Auto shifter knob. You can choose to add extra padding, the type of stitching and color of stitch. He did a great job. Check out his website: [email protected]

+1 for Chris Scow.. He did my s wheel gearshift knob and E brake handle and they are perfect. As said above you can pick your color thread and stitching at no extra cost.

Nicely done, but unless you want the satisfaction of doing it yourself, look up Chris Scow at LeatherWheels.com. $160 for a basic recover, including your choice of stitching and thread color. He did one wheel for me and I just sent him another. His work is outstanding. I had him do an Alpina wheel for me and decided not to use it since my car is not an Alpina. I am going with a plain 4 spoke Momo that is the same look as the Alpina. I will sell the Alpina reasonably. It is done with a red baseball stitch so it is somewhat unique

Thanks Bert.
Wow that is a good price. I asked a local company here, they asked 400 euros for the job.
