My ground strap from my hood to the top of the rad support is breaking, and I'm in need of a replacement peice.
I have searched EBay, nothing, and tried to get part number off realoem, can't find it...

If anyone has one for sale, let me know. Might even work out a trade for
some trinkets I have in a bin of E24 parts.

I think you can buy universal ones from any parts store - might even be able to cut them down to the right size.

I have tried all of our parts places here, and they are all too long. I could cut one down, but the ends are soldered and crimped. I tried with one I had, basically butchered it and it comes apart. I guess I need a hotter soldering iron, or a blow torch...

I just looked, my hood ground strap is cut in two also, and I can't find it in realOEM either. Anybody know where they hide the part number for it?

I can find the strap for the valve cover to the firewall and it seems to be about the right length and width, but the holes in the ends look to be too small to fit in place of the hood strap under the bolts on the hood hinge.

Well, No.2 is not what we need.
That looks like it connects to the battery.
The ground strap in question is on the passenger side
of the car, right beside the hood hinge.

I would have thought that most electrical parts suppliers would stock the

raw braided strap and various sizes of end fittings. Cut to suit and crimp

on the new ends.

I made my own up and fitted one to both hinges.

From the actual ETK cd, for my e23 but I'm sure the e24 is the same.

Yee haw!!!!! Applause

I got a phone call at the time I was reading the last post.
BMW dealership found me one, only $7, but,
it has to come from Germany. Not sure how long it
will take, but I will post the proper part number for all who
want to order one.

BTW, get this, it's actually a hood ground that is part of the
radio circuit to reduce interference. ???

Very Happy

That could explain a lot.... a whole lot.....
I had a guy install a radio in my car. When he hooked it up to the blaukput (unsure of that spelling) he said the amount of static was incredible, so he hard wired it... The hood had literally one strand attached...

Yes, the radio installation kit has 2 ground straps, one is the strap that runs between the valve cover and the firewall. I looked and the holes in this strap are too small to fit the hood hinge bolts in-place of the hood strap. The other strap is listed as being 20x400mm or 15-3/4" long! So, I can't see either one being correct for the hood strap? Perhaps the parts catalog is mismarked.

In any case I'll be interested in what you find. Think Cool

Apparently they are the same cable on the 3's... I was just reading an article on bimmerforms. If you looked on Realoem, I think the one that says L=170 is possibly correct, because that is almost 7", if we are talking mm.
