new e24 635csi to me , alpine white , black leather , 113k's

Post by BM WORLD NZ »

Hi guys and gals
new to this forum ,
i deal in bmw parts and cars in papakura
new zealand
have owned many bmw's , parted out many , sold many etc

but this is the only e24 that i have brought that i may want to keep
most other ones i have had have been rusty ex UK ones
not worth saving or keeping due to being the older ones with lods of hidding rust etc.
currantly own a 86 e28 M535i with a fully worked 3.65l m88 in it
that i use as a track car etc
along with other cars
like 93 e34 530i with a 4.4L m62 and 5spd manual
95 540iT
96 328iT
96 328i coupe with a super charger
and other cars that come and go through my business

just thought i would post this up.
just got this in this week
bidding on a $1res auction (went for a lot more than that though)
was owned by a customer of my company

1986 japan import
1 owner in japan (car collector)
and 1 owner in NZ
113,000km
quite tidy and original condition
LHD , switchable auto (not working ,no drive at all ) whats your thoughts on that torque convertor failed???
sitting on 15" e34 bbs wheels at the moment

old owner had some 17" alloys on it , which he has kept

but i might be doing a deal with him to get them back.

black leather sport seats,
mtec wheel.
cruise control
A/C , obc etc
engine sounds sweet ,
tidy boot , full tool kit etc.
japan special model
i think its a full cat spec model, like usa has
also funny rounded faced sealed beam headlights??
and sticky out front corner lights??
just need to fix the trans.
or maybe 5spd conversion.
maybe a worked m88 from my e28 m535i
and 5spd
and or RHD conversion??
anyone done a rhd conversion on these ,
i have a late 82 rhd 635csi 5spd parts car.

but looks like a lot of work to do, wipers , dash , pedals , mirror switch ,
abs pump ,wiring & control box etc.
anyway ,will see how it goes , might just fix the trans and be done with it.

also can i change the headlights to something better like e34 smileys etc??

maybe one of you guys want to buy it??

thanks Brent

Looks a Keeper.

The Trans should be a ZF 4HP 22. Common issue is a burnt out A clutch. Obvoiusly, Check fluid level first then Blocked filter. Otherwise..Commence Diagnosis.

Don't Wreck it..It looks too good.

thanks , yes wil be getting up on a hoist next week .

have heard it could be the torque convertor ??
its got no drive forward or backwards at all.
trans fluid is nice red colour
will either be sorting the trans ,
(have a later one in a e34 89 535i only done 81,000km that i could use for part to fix this trans up)

or maybe doing the full RHD conversion alone with the 3.65L M88 and 5spd etc .
cheers

This car would b great with a worked over m88/3. They are pretty good with a standard tuned m88.
What sort of power does the worked m88 make. My engine builder wants to take my head off and add a bigger intake cam and the engine will bake the easiest 400+bhp you will ever get with reasonable street manners.

its about 320-330hp at the moment ,
peak 400Nm torque from 4200rpm to 5200rpm
holds full power from 5200rpm to 7000rpm
but with more exhaust work should go up.
3.65L 86mm crank 95 mm bore ,
millar maf 4" intake ,
remapped ecu
11.5:1 CR pistons
schrick cams.
7.5kg flywheel
HD carbon kevlar clutch
stock rhd SA headers

sounds a bit like e46 M3 CSL at full noise

quick update

worked on the car yesterday

removed the auto trans

replaced the broken trans oil pump

some rough mecanic in japan i think broke the pump by not installing the torque convertor properly when fitting it up.

removed the pan to inspect , looks like new brand inside

so replaced it with a 2nd hand pump from another e34 535i trans that was starting to slip etc.

fitted it all back up .
refilled the trans etc

and away she goes.
got a new WOF and some reg so its all road legal etc

started at 10:30am and al done going by 3:30pm

drove it around . getting used to the LHD set up on RHD roads etc.

all seams to be going ok

gave it a quick wash and took it into town last night to the local bmw club night

just need to sort a few small thing out like central locking

work out how to change the OBC so it reads the temp in celcius

currantly says its 68 deg C but i think thats in fahrenheit

fix the odometer gears

check the spark plugs and dizzy for wear etc

check the tps settings etc

now just need to decide what i am going to do with it???

It's great when a basically good car comes together nicely when u start fixing all the "little things" that are wrong.

The problem becomes when all these items are sorted you are left to either develop the car with the intension of improving it or get rid of it.

It would make a nice old school club racer with a manual some weight removal suspension and brake inprovements and either a turbo or m88.

sorted the odometer gear with one from a e30 cluster,
so all works now.
fitted a proper size battery into it(had some silly jap car size thing in it)
also replace the battery terminal bolt with another one as it was all bent etc.
sorted the idel switch position and the varible idle control unit for the trans , so it now is not so jerky to dorve at low speeds and it switches gears smoother too.
