Is there any way to substitute a faster ratio steering box when rebuilding/repairing the box on a U.S."88 M6?

Tim,

EDIT : I found this on MY e28,
The steering box on my vehicle is a non-M, normal ratio steering box. My understanding is that the normal ratio box is 3.5 turns to lock, and the M quick ratio box is 3.0 turns to lock. An quick ratio M5 steering box is sought after because it makes the steering more precise and fun to drive, from what I've been told. END EDIT

The internal parts are not available, here is a photo of the external parts.
BMW does not list what the steering ratio is.

Is the steering box most easily removed from the top or the bottom (requiring sub frame removal)?

So the box is to be removed from the bottom: engine suspended/subframe lowered.

If you read 32-9, it does not say remove subframe
