a thought- could we meet for the photoshoot at BMW's Uk headquarters (bracknell?) ??

-and then head for a pub, of course.....

surely they (BMW UK) should support us a bit?? Anyone know if the site would be OK for this? (I've never seen it)

what do you chaps think?

cheers

Brucey,

Good idea Not amazingly central, but i like it. I will have a chat with Jeff Heywood at the club and see if it would be possible.

Rockingham?

I didn't realise that it was a Car Club do.

It would lose a lot of its attraction for me if it were to become a BMW Car Club event, I'm afraid, but that's probably just me.

I appreciate how much time and effort you put in to these things James, but the Car Club just doesn't do it for me and great idea though it is, I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be prepared to join if membership was necessary to take part.

Quite a lot of people feel the same. It appears to be the (allegedly malevolent) presence of a certain Mr. Heywood that might be causing some of the ill-feeling... Rolling Eyes

All events I organise come under the banner of the car club. As officially i am Coupe and E24 chairman. However i don't care if people attend are or are not members. What i want is a good turn out. And the advantage for me of having them under the car club banner and published is there insurance covers me if anything went wrong. I have spoken with Jeff on this and he has the same opinion as me. Anyone is welcome member or non member. If they then choose not to join thats fine and if they choose to join then great. It's how clubs work.

I spend probably what amount to about 20 days a year organising and helping to run events for the club and probable spend in the region of £500 a year doing it. I don't get paid anything as it's voluntary and i pay my membership which is £35. My main suggestion for people to join is to get the 10% off parts from BMW dealerships which more than pays for the membership each year. The monies also go towards some of the costs and gives some budget for events. It's like any membership though, it's only worth joining if you make the most of it whether that be finantially or spiritually.

I would hate to think that the very mention of the club would stop people from attending, and I question the views that are sometimes portrayed towards Jeff. Have you met the guy? He is a good bloke and works very hard trying to promote BMW and the club. He is also very supportive of anyone i have met in the club and tries to do the right thing.

Sorry not meaning to turn this post into a rant. Anyone is welcome if you want to come, come. It makes no difference to me or the club. If you want to join, Join. If you don't, don't. As i said at the outset my motivation is to get good attendance. All people that do attend have a good day out, and the E24 is promoted which ultimately will hopefully have a positive effect on their values.

James

1 toilets
2 easy access for water (to wash the cars from the journey)
3 most important FOOD and DRINK (strong)
in my experience this will be a very long day.
i still think billings aquadrome in northampton
great site for cars
but if this is not possible then the wife can do me a coolbox for the food and i will have to piss in my bucket for relief Embarassed

There is *absolutely* no criticism of you. I know that you are an enthusiast through and through who gives freely of time and resources for the betterment of all things E24.

I wrote a lengthy reply to the rest of your post, but, on reflection, decided it would take us nowhere and risk hijacking this thread.

Let's leave it at that and I'm sure we'll all have a good day.

Will Howard Walker be there? Brian Jordan?

Need to give Brian a call. See if we can get the black shadow down or even his white M.

Would be good to see Howard again, but i somehow doubt he will be down as there are some old wounds related to the Club. However if Howard is Listening he is more than welcome anytime.

Don't believe in politics.

Just had half an hour with Jeff and he has given me some tips of some good locations. Am going to find some time tomorow afternoon to go on the lookout for a location.

James

I've yet to see the Alpina.

My friend Ross bought it about a month ago and is doing some work to it before people can see it.

Should be half finished ready for Alexandra Palace so you should be able to see it there.

Still some way to go to match the 50-odd cars you had at Brooklands 2003

First brooklands we had 33 cars. Second brooklands we had 42 cars. 50 would be great.

Have spoken with Matt Robinson Editor of Total and it's looking good for Bruntingthorp being booked for this. I need to chase up to get a date confirmed.
