Re: Turner Motorsport/ECS Tuning -- negative

Several folks are posting in Turner's/ECS' defense. I also have never had trouble from them in the past. In fact, they were my go-to when it came to factory parts. This time ... hmm. I own four BMWs, and have ordered parts online for 20 years. It's a competitive business. Several mainstays, like Bav...

Turner Motorsport/ECS Tuning -- negative

I bought a large trim part from this vendor, which operates under both names, after contacting them to verify that the part was available at the posted price. I got confirmation on price and availability. After the part arrived, I noticed that an extra $200 had been tacked on the invoice without exp...

Re: Bulb in AC switch burned out

Since this thread was revived, I have an update. I found that the bulb in the switch is actually a 1.3w "wheat grain" wedge bulb that can be removed from the plastic bulb mount if you're careful. The plastic mount can be quite fragile and brittle with age -- some contact cleaner like DeOxi...

Re: Heater blower transistor failure mystery...

At this point I suspect I somehow killed both the AC and heater transistor while replacing the dash. The fuse for cabin lighting was blown by the time I had done my work, so I may have committed some other offenses as well. The AC switch may also be the source of my trouble, but I've had it apart a...

Re: Aftermarket blower motor w/cages?

I have an update. The blower motor unit w/cages for the Mercedes R107 roadsters is the same unit as the component for the E24 and, I assume, the E12, E28 and E21 which also use BMW part No. 64111354618 to my understanding. The MB unit isn't quite a drop in, as the blower for the Mercedes has the squ...

Re: Aftermarket blower motor w/cages?

Let us know. that would be quite the break through. I had been meaning to grab one off a merc in a parts yard but the last one I saw was burn in the engine bay. There is a second number on the cage that I BELIEVE matches up with the early W124 Benz chassis from the 1980s, 91.234.18.01.7. So if you ...

Re: Aftermarket blower motor w/cages?

I'm assuming it's a Chinese copy, but replacing the heater motor in an E24 is a 30-minute job, so I'm not worried. The big issue is whether the squirrel cages properly fit the ducts. They don't look exactly like the OE cages ...

Aftermarket blower motor w/cages?

I've been messing with my HVAC system and managed to crack one of the hamster cages on the original blower. It seemed to be drawing a lot of amps, so I need to replace it. But I've been stunned by the price a new unit with fan cages demands. Even the used ones are $100 or more, with no guarantee tha...

Re: Heater blower transistor failure mystery...

As it happens, I'm in the midst of some blower fan troubleshooting. It started out with a dash replacement, and suddenly I find my car without blower fan control except for high speed. This is probably unrelated to the ac/heater transistor issue, but if I can offer a suggestion for overall HVAC trou...

Re: Bulb in AC switch burned out

I found the bulb ... it wasn't anywhere in the RealOEM catalog that I could find, but this electrical supplier appears to have it:

Bulb in AC switch burned out

I'd like to replace the bulb in my AC switch. Looks like a 1-watt bulb like most instrument lighting, but it has an odd-looking socket. Soldering a fresh bulb into the mount looks like it would be a pain. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

Re: And you wonder why the front sills and floor rust ?

IMO it's not the sunroof drains that cause rust as much as the dirt and vegetative junk that falls through the cowl and fender drains and into the fender wells. Water from the drains (including the sunroof) keep the gunk moist, producing a fertile environment for rust. I try to open up my front fend...

Re: weird acting temp. gauge.

My '83 has a related problem. The temp gauge doesn't peg, but it is unsteady, wavering all the time. Also, the brake lining light likes to come on intermittently and the econ gauge stops working from time to time. A slap on the dash can bring things back to normal, but I don't like to whack on it. :...

Positive for Airscrew

I bought an HVAC panel from Tony, and it arrived without a button on one of the levers. I contacted him, and he tracked it down and sent it to me by USPS.

A seller's behavior when a deal develops a hitch says a lot. Thank you, Tony, for your attentiveness.
