Uk prices .......

Post by olympia57 »

Copied this from another site .
I'm not realy sure what to what to think if this is the price being acheived for a very rotten E24 .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Going through Copart today at Sandtoft, a rotten 1980 635CSi Auto. Currently at £4700 plus fees on pre-bidding (so about £5300) before the auction proper starts. Seems a lot of money for a scrapper. :-o On the plus side it has a 3453 L Jet M90 engine and might even have a limited slip diff.

VIN is 5585477. Built 7/80."

This was the car advertised on Ebay about six years ago when , although rough ,it still had some dignity . Additional photos show thew inner wings to be absolutely rotten in it's current state.

Is it thought more/most likely that any intended buyer would have in mind to break the car? Aren't so many of the parts that will most likely be needed for a restoration simply no longer made?

I think you'd have to be a poor speculator to believe that profit can be made from the saveable parts of that car .

Lovely color too (the first one), looks like something the cat hocked up :-&

Interesting to watch values on various parts of the world, thanks for sharing =D>

My insurance is due, a classic policy with Hagerty, well known here in the states

So I took the opportunity to see if the stated value could be raised, and to my surprise, that will be upped from $12k to $17k

I will pay a bit more of a premium, however, but still think it's worth it, since it would be VERY difficult to replace the green beast #-o

So how does "stated value" work in the US insurance market? Here in the UK I've often been asked to submit a "value of the car", but unless that is formally recognised as an "agreed valuation" (and that would normally need a independent professional valuation), any total loss payout would generally be by reference to industry market price guides.

Hi Phil,

Well, my only experience is with Hagerty, but I surmise that most if not all insurance companies that offer "classic" policies work similarly :-?

For instance, I am limited to 2500 miles per year, which of course is fairly easy to stay within, since the 6er is used almost exclusively for shows, day drives and of course, Pacific Sharkfest \:D/

But from what I recall of the process, I had to provide a series of photos, description of mods and upgrades, I think I even went to the the insurance agency that underwrote the policy for me (Allstate) with the 6er :-k

Regarding the recent chances, that was all done with a phone call, but would require an independent appraisal, as you duly noted, if I were to attempt an even higher stated value than was offered over the phone :-({|=

Oh, and I should also mention that they tell me what the max value is, not the other way around [-X

HTH [-o<

I agree with Bobbo. I have several classic car policies in the UK which follow the same process. When renewing, it is always worthwhile to ask if an increase of agreed value is available. Sometimes this is allowed without an increase to the premium!

Years ago, it was necessary to pay for an independent valuation. I found this to be expensive and not necessarily accurate. IME the valuer was keen to ensure he did not overvalue ( maybe due to protecting his reputation?) and thus it became a “discussion” of what I thought the vehicle was worth versus what the valuer thought was wrong with it!
I think that now, a reasonable appraisal by the owner with photographs is generally accepted by the insurer.

Well, the auctioneers reckon it is in fair condition and value it at £12k

Last MOT expired July 2008. Mileage slightly increased from then, but it looks as if the odometer may have been previously broken, bearing in mind the MOT history. I'm wondering if it is the same colour (gold), but that the photos have come out differently? Manufactured 07/80, so nothing to say it is anything more than an old BMW - so why the inflated value :-k

Has anybody viewed it?
